L4D CPU usage

i don't find the game that demanding on my system, my question would be how do i up the usage from 2 cores to 4 cores :D
i get a nice fps of this game anyway (about 150)

My PC runs this game at max at 1280x1024 and my spec is an AMD Athlon 64 3800X2, 2GB DDR, Nvidia GeForce 7600GT... So pretty average, but it's so nice to see Left 4 Dead running so damn smoothly.

For the price well competitor price it’s a real fun game either playing online with anybody, friends or clans so I would recommend it I don’t think it will last as long as TF2 but still really worth a go.

Now back to the core thing. I have a G15 keyboard and have my CPU and Ram displayed on it at all times and out of all the games I’ve played on this CPU none have stressed it out in any way or not even gone near 100%. Now as far as I know L4D is the first Valve game to support multi core, unlike TF2 which just knocks the **** out of 1 core. When I first played L4D online I noticed both cores were permanently on 100% even at the start of the game standing on the roof which I thought was strange but played on like that and the game ran ok locked at 60fps. But Ventrilo was lagging and when I alt tab everything took a long time to recover which has never happened.

The next night and speaking to clan members we all played with the settings to see what was going on, I dropped all the video settings to the lowest setting and the lowest res and still on the roof it was using 100% on both cores and there’s just no way that’s right in an old game engine with little going on. Then we switched of multi core rendering and then on the roof with little going on it’s using both cores evenly at about 40% and has only gone up to 70% during maxed out horror.

Now 5 of us tried this 2 of us have dual cores and it works for us, the quad cores uses never had a problem with this setting and keep it on. I do understand that when it comes down to it in places like this and topics like this everyone thinks they are right, but in this case what is now right is I along with some clan members can play L4D without all the massive energy it was using and it runs even better now because the CPUs are doing a normal job, before they were at warp factor 9.

Oh yeah, no swearing either...:p

gameplay is 1 thing but graphics in the vids just look too crap to pay money for.

Is that a joke?

Are you saying you'll never buy an indie game, or any game not released by Crytek? Whilst I'm a graphics whore, I'd take gameplay over graphics anyday. Awesome graphics are just the icing on a really good game.

i've reported you for posting a competitor, read the rules, also you're swearing, but can't be bothered to RTM again

I have a Athlon 64 X2 and have the option on. The CPU runs between 75-100%, nothing lags and I don't have any issues. With the option off the game runs between 60-80% and the performance is reduced accordingly.

that's what i expected would happen..

has Jez replied yet? :p

So to summarise the thread so far:

OP: I have 100% cpu usage in L4D. What's wrong?

Forum: Nothing's wrong x 20

OP: OMG LOLOLOLOLOL you all suck Ventrillo's slow.

Forum: CPU intensive game uses CPU. There could be something else wrong?

OP: I've turned off multicore rendering all is fine now.

Forum: Lots of people don't have a problem with multicore rendering.

OP: I don't care what any of you say + swearing + competitor

Sorry if that seems a bit childish but I don't see the point in coming here to ask the question if you're only going to listen to yourself. You might as well just turn off off multicore rendering, file a bug report with valve and carry on about your business. No point in trying to have a discussion on it if you're not really willing to discuss anything.

You will never learn....

IT IS NORMAL FOR CPU'S TO WORK AT 100%......
JUST BECAUSE A GAME DOES NOT USE 100% DOES NOT MEAN ANY GAME SHOULD NOT......

UT3 is another example as I have said, uses 100%..., even with Multi-Core rendering the CPU is between 60 and 100% here in L4D and it is perfectly fine when it is stuck at 100%, and guess what... I have Google chrome with 16 tabs open in the background, Msn messenger and Xfire all working fine...

In a game it is not all about the graphics that cause a CPU to be at a high load, I bet you'd be complaining if you fired up a game like SupCom that has not got so amazing graphics and it's using all your dual... Even though it takes advantage of Quad Core....
