Lad breaks into a house and is killed...

If you poke a dog with a stick, there's a possibility it might eat your face, regardless of how hard you poke it.

Entering a strangers home unauthorised comes with risks. You accept that the moment you enter.

It's an unfortunate loss of life. Simply thinking about what he was doing before hand would have saved him. Do i feel sorry for him? No. Because i have common sense.

Doestn matter what time of day, the kid is standing there in your house. I would go for him like a Rottwieler

Think the benefit of the doubt should go to the home defender. Unless there's an element of cold bloodedness to the death of the suspected burgler, anything to defend your home is reasonable force imo.

here's the memorial page:

Sounds like /b/ has had a go at the description :o

Thing is with comments like the below it's not surprising people will be quick to assume the worse of him.

Need more facts but if he was inside some stranger's house, what else would he be doing except a crime? so I'm with the 'one less POS' brigade until I learn more.

How is it that these nice angels get caught inside someone elses home in the dead of night? (edit. or during the day) are they santa's helpers or the tooth fairy? NO, they are theiving scum!

I would really like some clear facts about this case to many unknows, was he or wasnt he breaking into the house? even the police dont seem to knw

I keep the end of a snooker cue next to my bed. Wouldn't think twice about battering someone if they broke in to my house. Burglars have no respect for property or life and deserve none in return.

4 cell maglite myself. Atleast then I can have justification for having it in the bedroom. For 'power cuts' :D

You should lose your rights when you break into someones property.

Read through some of the comments and noticed a few of his friends mentioning other burglaries where he wasn't caught. I'd lean towards this also being a burglary if he has indeed done it in the past.

There's a difference between saying that death is an apt punishment for burglary, and saying that burglars should be prepared to be killed if they invade someone else's property. The latter is reasonable imo.

Yes if they break the law they ought to be ready to suffer any consequences. I don't think the home owner is in the wrong, but there is a real danger that it suddenly becomes acceptable to kill any intruder that comes into your home. Even in such a heated situation it isn't hard to judge if the burgler is going to do you any harm or if he is going to bolt when he's been rumbled. I know I wouldn't aim to kill a burgler if one were in my house. I'm sure there are people on these forums that will have committed burglarly when they were young and naive and wouldn't see death as a fair penalty for their crime.

Out of interest, where does the law lie on challenging people who illegally enter your house. Is it open season for burgular killers?

Nope. They have to be confronting you and you have to feel threatened. So more or less open season as long as wounds are sustained to the front of them. You can not purse them and attack.

He was 17, and robbing someone... that someone took him out of the world before he grew up and got into far worse crimes.

I agree with what someone said about entering someones home un-lawfuly, and being prepared to fight for your life. The robber doesn't know whats behind that door when they sneak in, and take their life into their own hands.

Unfortunately, this kid was probably very nice in his parents eyes (as most kids are), but he was probably a little **** with his mates.

How can they tell that Tony Martin shot his intruder whilst he was running away? Surely a shot in the back could also be the result of the intruder turning as he saw the gun, yet technically not fleeing the scene...
