lol haha labour are great, they sure know how to spend your money.

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/621700/New-scheme-to-give-270000-needy-kids-free-computers.html

HUNDREDS of thousands of poor children are to be given FREE laptops and computers with broadband internet in the New Year.

The astonishing multi-million-pound Government handout - involving big name suppliers like Comet - will benefit 270,000 low-income families across England.

Each will be given £528 to spend as part of the Home Access programme aimed at ensuring kids from deprived backgrounds all have access to the web.

To take part familes must have a child between seven and 14 who qualifies for free school meals which normally means being on income support or with an overall annual income less than £16,040

A desperate attempt to be seen as popular by Labour before the general election tbh.

Although Tories aren't amazing, they should be better than this pile of crap shouldn't they?

yep, last attempt to win votes... think i may just vote labour and the bnp.

I dont see whats wrong with his? Poor kids getting access the the internet?

£528 to spend, why not given them government cast offs pc etc...
this is to win votes and help out the retail business and foreign companies, but you'll be paying for it.
Plus how many other families on 20k can afford lappies etc...

£528 ?

Is that for just a laptop ? That's quite a bit more than needed.
If it's for laptop, internet & printers etc , then fair play.

They say being poor is hard :p

Everyone can access the internet already in public librarys etc, which are of course already funded by us. The only difference is that having their own laptops at home will mean they'll have access to games and porn.

Great - so whilst taxpayers will no doubt be punished further come the next budget to pay for the mess we're in the Government is still intent on splashing the cash on frivolous schemes.

Librarys and schools, even when I was at school and college, had plenty of PCs spare for school work and internet use before, during and after school.

There is no one, no one (in the UK) who cannot afford a PC anyway.

I know for a fact even someone with no income whatsoever could easily get a basic PC with the money they get off the government, if they don't waste it all constantly.

I dont think this will "win" votes at the next election, a lot of poor families dont bother voting and I doubt they would even if they had a free laptop. At the very least it wouldn't change the overall decision on who would win.

Free laptops for poor families? Personally I don't see a problem with this and for the people crying outrage over this at least if you do have to pay something extra in tax later on at least it was for a good cause.

Ultimately it's a good thing but I can't help but think that this is Brown buying votes. I've got no problem with that just so long as he doesn't stop at underprivileged children. I want my beer and prossie allowance!
