Lappy new year!

I can do the sum, that's not a problem but a headline figure like that isn't necessarily the final total. For the sake of £150m the benefits in allowing people easier access to computers might well outweigh the cost, it's a very difficult thing to quantify but just because something doesn't have an immediately recognisable end product doesn't necessarily make it useless or a waste of money.

then whats the point working?

I waited years before I could justify the financial expenditure of buying a laptop to go alongside my desktop though

And if the laptop is the sole computer in the household? Incidentally I don't see anything in the article stating that the purchase must be of a laptop, if they buy a desktop up to the equivalent value will that reduce your ire?

I'll skirt that this is largely a non-sequitur and answer anyway. If you're happy just getting by and living off the generosity of the state then there is no point in you working, I wish you good luck in that but I wouldn't be satisfied with it.

There is simply no need to spend £528 to get a functioning, modern, internet ready computer in the home.

if you work, then ill say you paying for it.

Are we not in a recession/depression though?

Why the sudden need to give people laptops?

As already mentioned, people could easily have access to the 'net for less than half the price.

Not that it suprises me tbh.

So what do us people who actually pay tax get from this government?

You get nothing, well maybe some money, that's about it.

I am happy to help those who help themselves, and completely for this scheme BUT only if they have a minimum requirement of at least one parent in a proper job, not to those families who do nothing but leech.

look keep working and dont reply, or we'll slap a terrorist act against you.

You're happy with it, even though the government doesn't have the money to spend/waste? They're not even spending it wisely! What's wrong with netbooks? A bulk order on them would get the price stupidly low.

Guess I'd better quit my job then. After all why bother working to get luxury goods such as laptops when I can not only get my rent paid and get "free" money I can also get free luxury goods.

Why do me and Mrs LordSplodge bother working at all?

Yet another stupid Labour idea...

What a huge waste of money, a desktop can be gotten for < £200. I'm paying hundreds for medical treatment every year and people are getting free luxury goods, what fantastic priorities this government has.
