I know theres been a few posts on the subject before, but i've finally booked my trip!!

March 28th - 11th April

at Excalibur Hotel.

So people ill be 21 at that point, i wont be arriving till like 10pm (there time) but i plan on going out first night! hehe

What do you suggest i do?

i 100% wanna do a Grand Canyon trip and also see some shows

obviously - gambling a bit etc.. are gonna happen, but what else do you suggest?

I am planning on hoping to LA for 2 days during aswell :)

Ideas?

ooooh where to start.

Well first of all make sure you go up and down the strip *obviously*

I really enjoyed Siegfried and Roy's secret garden at the Mirage, but it's lions and tigers and dolphins so if you're not into the animals, then don't go :D

Er..see the fountains at the Bellagio and make sure you frequent the 'all you can eat buffets!" The Excalibur one is decent as is the pool - they have a spa too and for 10 dollars you get a hoooooge frozen cocktail. I can't wait til I go back in August I'm addicted to the damn place :D

In addition to the above, try the rides on the top of the stratosphere tower, these things are for the purely insane, especially Insanity the ride. Looking at the stratosphere website, it looks like the roller coaster is no longer running.

Try and catch the sirens of TI at treasure island, but get there early as the show is free and the sidewalk tends to get a little crowded.

Also, practical travel tip, the Duece is a fleet of double decker buses that run up and down the strip and stop at most of the casinos, so if you get tired of walking these are a viable option, although they do get a bit cramped at peak times.

So jealous! Im not going back until next year :(

The grand canyon is amazing.

One of the trips we went on was brilliant. We went on a river raft tour on the colorado river. Its 11 miles long. Stopped off at a patch of sand and had lunch. Had a paddle in the freezing cold water. Was a really relaxing trip, very diff to Las Vegas itself.
Obviously depends what kind of thing you want to do though! (Not old enough to gamble there myself.)

Ohhh and the roller coaster outside NYNY hotel is fun!

i needed to ask you something actually, would you mind email me at mcdaniel_2k @ hotmail.com or adding it to MSN please?

Avoid strip clubs. Or rather, if you do go to one, don't get a private dance. $$$$$$$$$$$$$ which can be much better spent elsewhere.

And play the tabasco slot machines, you canna lose. :p

And dont bother paying for drinks, sit on the slots playing 1c games until the waitresses come round then get free drinks (or rather just tip the waitress).

[/cheapskate who spent $30 in a whole night in Vegas :D ]

Me and the missus stayed at the Excalibur in October when we went over. The hotel is not atall bad, probably a slightly friendlier atmosphere than some of the other big name hotels (ie Bellagio, Caesars etc). The nice thing is that at the bottom of the main accomodation blocks (we were in tower 1) is a small coffee shop thingy, selling bagels, danish's etc. We basically went there for breakfast every morning and took it back to the room. Plenty to keep you going and pretty damn cheap.

We made a fairly detailed plan of our trip to make most use of our time there, but we did the helicopter trip to the canyon (with champagne lunch), an evening tour which whilst verging on cheesy/OAP was great! You get to see a number of free shows that you might not otherwise see. Spent almost a whole day at the Mirage gardens (missus was just ga ga over the dolphins), had free poker lessons, went to various shopping malls (taxi to the outlet mall for cheap clothes/shoes etc). Only proper evening show we went to was the Rat Pack tribute at the Greek Isles hotel, it's a way off the strip and comparatively tiny, but the show was superb and the cast met and shook hands with everyone afterwards. Definately the highlight of our trip.

We are already booked to go back again in September, this time for our honeymoon :) Staying in a suite at TheHotel at Mandalay Bay this time :D

Any questions, feel free to email me. baldric underscore [email protected] (no spaces)

If you go to the Grand Canyon make sure you are careful which trip you book , the South Rim is the real one , the west rim or west canyon is not the grand canyon ( in the generally accepted sense ) and is over 100 miles away . If you see on which includes a helicopter landing at the bottom then this is the west canyon , Helicopters are not allowed to fly below the rim of the Grand Canyon

Yer i dont really know much about it all but people that have been have said Ballys is fairly central. What is the average cost of a meal? Im not really sure how much money to take. Im not a big gambler, Im sure ill have the odd go in the casinos but I shouldnt require too much money for that.

Cost of meals varies hugely

A nice restaurant is about $90-100 a person but your American diner places will come in about $20 each , and a fast food place about $5

At the high end my favourite restaurant in Vegas ( in fact anywhere ) is Michael's ( very close to you , utterly fantastic but bank on the top side if $200 per person

re budget for the trip , we tend to eat and drink well and do a little gambling and we normally take around £200 per day

you've got me all excited about Vegas now and my next trip ( 5th in 4 years ) isn't till September :(

i was looking at about £100 a day, but this is my first holiday in 4 years and my bday present to myself so want it to be amazing!

Thanks for the grand canyon info!!

You will be fine on £100 a day , as I say we normally do go for it a bit when in Vegas and I am paying for everything for 2 of us :D

hehe, unfortunatly no lovely ladies will be with me, instead 2 guys...

Alas, we shall see what Vegas has to offer in terms of ladies!

I visited the Hoover Dam, which was excellent. The views are beyond belief and you can stand in Nevada at one end, and Arizona at the other.

I also visited the tiny outpost of Rachel, Nevada, about 3 hours drive out of Las Vegas as I have always been interested in the Area 51 thing and the Little A' Le Inn is world famous if you are into such stuff. That got me within 28 Miles of Area 51. The views of the Nevada desert on the way are stunning.

Also, a must is a visit to this place, The Gun Store at 2900 East Tropicana, Las Vegas. I was like a kid in a toy shop, and I mean toys ! Note the fully automatic SAW at the bottom

Pay your dollars and pick your toy to play with. A passport is needed for ID.

As well as firing a Beretta M92 and a Colt .45 pistol, I rattled off a couple of mags on this little baby. A fully automatic Armalite rifle, known as the M-16. It was fab !

The gun store was the highlight of Vegas for me as you just don't get to play with toys like that here.

did you lose your face in the casino?? that's some heavy betting :p

Rotty: I'm like you, addicted - this year will be my 5th in 4 years too and I'm going in.....SEPTEMBER! *spoooooky* ;)
