Oh Dear Lord!!!

/me adds to must do list

Did you drive out to Rachel yourself? as none of us drive

Yeah. Me and 3 mates went and we hired a car from LAX on arrival and dropped it of at San Francisco on the way out. We had a laptop and a route planner and satnav attatchment so we knew where we were at all times.

Might struggle if you are a non driver, but Rachel was fab and the people there very friendly, especially to us Brits.

Excellent! might see what can be arranged!

im not really sure on the shows, what are the must sees?

I went to vegas for 2 weeks last August and loved it.

We went to death valley, hoover dam, grand canyon, and most places in Vegas itself. The stratosphere tower is good, the rides are also good, hope you enjoy insanity more than I did. Big shot is worth a second go.

Also spent 5 nights in LA and 1 in San Diego, which were also great and if you get the chance visit LA but it's a 5 hour drive, could look at a flight if you're not hiring a car? Universal Studios in LA is worth a visit.

In the 3 weeks we spent there we hired a car (brand new Chrysler 300C 3.5L) which we got half price :) and drove about 2500 miles. Go to one of the small enterprise places in a hotel and haggle a bit.

Have a good time, can't wait until I go back.

March 28th - 11th April

at Excalibur Hotel.

Freaky. I'll be over at the same time, but I'll be staying at New York, New York. :)

I've been counting down the days. We've got a helicopter ride over the strip at night booked and I've managed to blag a limo ride from the airport to the hotel for free.

I'm also looking forward to taking on this bad boy. :D

Does anyone know where to book tickets for the shows? The only places I've found online are either very expensive ($60 over the going rate!) or won't ship to the UK/take UK credit cards.

what shows are you looking for , I have never seen any where the tickets go for above face value and have never had a problem booking from the UK

I have done strip helicopter trip , the best views are from the left hand side

re the "free" limo" don't forget the driver will expect a $20 tip :p

Just thought I would add this as it could save some embarrassment for any Vegas newbies, tipping is a deeply embedded part of Vegas culture so here''s roughly what is expected

Bellman at hotel $1 per bag
Restaurant ( anywhere with table service ) 15-20%
Bar $1 per round ( unless its a big round )
Drinks at gaming tables/machines $1 per drink
Drinks served at table 10-20%
Taxi/Limo 15%
Maid service $3 per day but many don't bother with this
Bloke who gets you taxi at taxi stand $1

also don't forget that all stores / restaurants add 7.75% sales tax to the advertised price

Another whos off to Vegas (pretty popular on here!) in November :) first time, not booked the hotel yet but for location and price in our budget (low!) we probably gonna stay at the Flamingo.

Grand Canyon and at least one show (probably Penn & Teller if they are still on) are on our itinary as is a chopper over the strip plus a little bit of gambling ;) have heard that some casinos do lessons in the morning is this right? cos I got no idea on how to play craps! nor any idea on casino etiquete so dont wanna get thrown out :p

To be honest we didn't see much of San Diego, got there very late in the evening, got up the next day at lunchtime, found a bar on the beach, stayed there until late ish then headed back to Vegas. We didn't really have a plan, just thought when we were in LA "lets go to San Diego", but really we did nothing.

San Diego is about 110 miles from LA and about 340 from Vegas.

Flamingo is fine , superb location
re Penn and Teller then this is not one of the big vegas shows, the ones to see are ( in order ) Ka , Mystere, O , Blue man

re the lessons , many do this in the morning , while I cant give you a conclusive list Bally's certainly do ( 10 mins from Flamingo )

Don't know yet we go to stay with my Aunt in San Francisco so we look in the local paper when we get there and get a cheap deal then. Usually we go for the more cheap and cheerful end, Excalibur, NYNY, Luxor and save our money for the Casinos :D

Bellagio though. *droooooool* Also love TheHotel at the Mandalay Bay. Remember seeing that being built *reminisces*

and taxi never give change, so if its $41, unless you want to give a big tip, have some $5 bills handy.

when taking a taxi from the airport if the go out of the airport through a tunnel and on to the I15 freeway don't tip them as they have ripped you off by going the long way round

They are not allowed to take this route without asking you but they will disguise the question or tell you that there has been an accident on the strip ( if they ask at all )
