** LATE BUT IN FASHION: SAMSUNG G700 GAMING LAPTOP ARRIVING TOMORROW! **

Hmmm just ran some benchmarks and the SSD is well below par. Intel RST is reporting SATA 3Gb/s on all drives. The Chipset definetly supports Sata 6Gb/s... Any ideas?

Ok, my new laptop and ssd just arrived...I haven't turned it on yet...could someone answer my questions please?

thanks

Hi everyone.

my name is Ish and this is my first post on this forum.

I just order the Samsung 700G7A S01 laptop and i've ordered a crucial 128m4 ssd aswell.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to pc's...and I have never installed a hard disk before.

Just wanted to know, do I have to open up the laptop and put the new ssd drive in before I start up the laptop for the first time?

Also do i have to burn my own recovery cd, or does the laptop come with one?

thanks

I'd suggest you start it to make sure it works before installing your new SSD, if you haven't already.

If you dont know how to install a SSD you can look at Genoma's Post

You should have a Samsung Installation Disk (depending on where you bought it from) that you can use to re-install Win7.

P.S. Don't forget the firmware update for the m4.

I have the same problem with mine and even tweaked the settings for SSD use rather annoying so I just gave up in the end thinking it had to do with the fact that it was re-imaged off of a HDD but guess that's not it. Did you find out the answer?

Regarding the SSD issue, it's not something that can be solved by changing something in the bios? Sorry if this is a really obvious thing you've already checked out just trying to be helpful.

got one of these and it is an absolutely superb piece of kit, best laptop i have ever owned by far.
sound is awesome, glasses are good, screen is great etc etc
plays all the latest games at full spec with ease
unfortuatly due to a change in circumstances with my job i have had to put it on ebay now if any of you want a bargain!

Re the ssd issue again: have you tried going to Device Manager and disabling "Write caching" on the "Policies" tab for your SSD? Apparrently this speeds up write times. Is this a solution?
Being a complete newb I have no idea if this info is any good to you but here's hoping it is.

So I decided to pull the trigger on buying one of these :) I have to say I was looking at alienware ones :( but I decided to go for this as the specs seemed just as good and much cheaper.

I also bought some ram to go with it. Looking forward to getting it :D

Just posting an update about my experience with the laptop...

It's bloody fantastic! with the SSD installed it is lightning quick, and play battlefield 3 and crysis on the highest settings with no slowdown at all.

3D is good, but a little overwhelming on the senses.

Only issue I've had is with the battery...It won't charge at all when i plug in the mains adaptor...just says 0% charged on the bottom right power icon all the time...maybe it's faulty?

Anyone have any suggestions?

It's a windows 7 fault that and Vista has it too and does it on all laptops at some stage, this is what you need to do ..

Read what I posted here on page 4 of this same thread it's the first post I make on that page ;). If you read this thread and the other thread relating to this laptop you will find most questions have been answered.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18364947&page=4

Also read the next post I made down on the same page regarding recalibrating the battery by going into the BIOS and running the tool there until it powers off, make sure not to have the power supply plugged in when running that tool in the BIOS, you basically need to wait for it to power down and then plug the power supply back in and wait 2 and half hours for it to charge to 100% again the light at front will go from orange (charging) to green (fully charged).

The other thread is this one here:-

Seems the Ivy Bridge version is coming soon and it will have an Intel Core i7 (3610QM) 2.3GHz 6MB (L3 Cache), nVidia GeForce GTX 675M with 2048MB GDDR5 and a HM76 Express chipset. ;) One thing I did spot is there is no mention of this version being 3D 120hz screen and with glasses (if you look at the information leaflet below there is a factory option and I guess then it will come with the AMD HD7970M graphics instead). So this maybe the version they were talking about that will not be 3D which I heard rumours about and this one will hit the USA market too then.

Model number will be : NP700G7C-S01UK

Support page is already up for it.

The product page is not yet up but will be on this link when it is.

thanks for the advice Purgatory,

I tried the first option but it did not work...

I have not tried recalibrating the battery yet because you say we have to remove the a/c power supply before doing the recalibration in BIOS, but if i do that the laptop will not turn on as the battery has no power whatsoever.

Can I run the recalibration without having to unplug the a/c power supply?

thanks

Sounds like a faulty battery to me?

Anyone got thoughts on upgrading this to 16GB Ram and to a SSD drive? For a gaming laptop its disappointing that it comes with a 5400RPM Harddrive.

What ram and sdd would you guys recommend? I'm thinking a 128gb SDD for win7 install and games installed with everything else going onto the spare hd.

Yeah it may be faulty...I just have to try recalibrating and see how it goes.

I spoke with the company who I bought the laptop from, and they said they want the entire unit back...laptop and all! i only wanted a replacement battery.

I've installed a lot of games and an SSD...Don't want to send the laptop back just to get a replacement battery.

Anyway...

Definitely upgrade to a SSD drive...it makes a huge difference in speed of the entire system.

I have a Crucial M4 128GB SSD...it's one of the best...i'm sure many will agree, just check out the reviews on this site.

Don't know about RAM, because for me 8gb is enough!

Wouldn't mind one of those, if the G700 had an nVidia GPU I'd have bought one awhile back. Tho IIRC the GTX675M is still a Fermi core :( 120Hz would be nice just for gaming even if not stereo 3D but aslong as it can output a dual DVI signal I can hook it upto a 120Hz TFT.

If the new model is the same layout you could look into getting the 675M card and heatsink as parts from samsung and put it in yourself :D
