Latest GT5 info

I wonder how many people have ever driven a race car or at least a fast car on a track? Many games such as NFS, grid etc give a false sense of speed that in real life doesnt exist, thats why many sim games look slow as they are actually more realistic, its all realtive in the end. The video has been chopped around quite a bit aswell prob will be better to get proper capture footage from IGN/1UP.

generally in real life its the rough gutteral sensation of being in a race car on a bumpy track, and being so low + the fear of the unknown that makes it feel fast.. also the noise and airspeed... these are things that are not easily replicated on a video game.

as for GT, the medium cars cannot feel 'too fast; because by the time you hit the lemans racers or GT cars with 500bhp+ the game would have to scale to an extent that it would be like wipeout zone 50+ requiring out of this world driving!

They are remarkable developers. I wish there was a similar team on the 360 to really push the system :(

And Forza 3 isn't looking any good?....

The cars in GT5 do look stunning, their poly counts and shaders are very nice indeed. But as a whole package it's not head and shoulders above the rest, they just focus their efforts on the cars, which distracts people from other things.

Having watched their damage video... pfft... poor. They do appear to have flexing bumpers, but the impression of actual damage is not very good at all.
The collisions seem wooden and has always been something that ruined the GT experience.

The sense of speed can be greatly improved by changing the FOV, but it has it's trade offs. You're never going to get a true sense of speed, you need peripheral vision along with all the other tiny sensations from the real world.

1000+ cars is impressive, me thinks their car modelers have been churning out cars for ages whilst the programmers write and rewrite the game

First of all Forza 3 looks great, well what i have seen of the replay and photo mode, but it doesnt have as many cars on the track as GT5 and is at a lower Res. I think the damage is the best ive seen on a console game, paint scratches slight deformation bits falliong off etc etc, not seen this from Forza 3 vids as yet.

Wow, the only game that has made me consider getting a PS3 and i'm not even slightly intrested. I don't like criticising game developers as I know for the most part, an immense amount of effort goes into making a computer game.

PD are just a lazy bunch of cowboys. Wasn't this originally slated to a launch title for the PS3? Where the hell is this damage they've promised? A bumper falling off and a door swinging open on 20%~ of the car lineup isn't damage. Where is the psp GT?

The team have been making racing games for over a decade now? There should be enough experience/funding to fly through the devlopment process. What have they been doing since they released that prologue? Making a few car/track models and editing some parameters in the physics code?

And it's probably more 700 cars after they've stretched 30 different cars out of the same [Insert Japanese car] 3D model.

Read the news mate? GTPSP is out October 1st, the damage is down to manufactures not the case that PD cant do it, its because they wont let them on production cars. I guess you have not seen the deformation stuff from trailers at E3 and from GC. Maybe its best to wait until the game is out than before its release, just an idea. BTW Production of GT5 Started end of 2006 just after GTHD came out as they basically scapped what they did and started again. I guess no other driving game has multiple models of the same car?

Damage the best you've seen on a console
Car games have been doing more convincing stuff for years. The "scratches" which I didn't spot the first time round, I just rewatched the video since you said it had them. They're smudges but I know why they're limited there, they could be improved though.
Panels falling off is as basic as it gets, the bending that a bumper apears to have is nice though, but they don't have any full on deformation which many games have done before on licenced cars.

I hope there is a filter online to switch off dmg. It was bad enough in GT5p having people ram into you.

Gran Turismo 5 has to be one of the most criticized games this Generation. I guess its because its taking forever to come out. I really don't mind waiting, plenty of other games I need to play before GT5 takes up all my time.

I knew the PSP version was coming out fairly soon, but isn't it about 3 years after the launch of a PSP?

Haven't they been throwing around that damage excuse for years now(Since GT2)? Why have the manufactures allowed other games to damage thier cars? I did see the deformation effects but i'm not impressed, the damage reminds me of the orignal Toca game on the PS1, very impressive at the time, but not now over 10 years later.

I'm a little doubtful if they did start from scratch. If they did it's just poor planning.

SCEE head suggests the release date will be announced at TGS next month.

gt-mobile has been announced already and is due for release soon, even the cars in that have cockpit cams.

and for the damage criticisms that its only panels falling off and smudges.

some folk need to stfu.

Please don't tell me to stfu. I do know what I'm talking about.

Looking at the two images you linked to-
Pic 1, thats the reflection, it's from near the end of the video and viewed as part of the video it shows the panel is clean. It's just the way the reflection is stretched/blurred in that frame of the video.

The second one shows the true extent of thier "scratches" which is a low rez, single channel smudge. Nothing wrong with that, but please don't praise it as the best damage you've ever seen.

The car paint on the other hand, is likely to be the best you've seen in a game, very nice

Yes but looking at office building in a racing game, how pretentious are GT5 fans?

Jesus, its a racing game, who cars what crowd looks like or if their is a light on in a building.

Sorry, but what the hell have the office buildings got to do with anything? Or being pretentious because of them?

Why can you damage cars in forza then? T10 said that excuse was completely false.

GT5 is looking great though. Can't wait for some proper footage.
