LCD, LED or Plasma?

I have no experience in anything related to tvs and just spout random technical type thoughts that come into my head. Plus I'm a 14yr old child trying to look cool on a Home Cinema & Hi-fi forum.

Instead of the same tiresome, snide remarks trying to make me feel inferior to your peers on here, how about ya actually follow through with an answer. Do you have any experience with LED TVs with that extensive AV wisdom of yours?

Firstly, the only LED tv I have ever seen is the 11inch Sony OLED as I don't know of any other LED sets out there at this time ;)

I became tired of your childish comments earlier on in this thread. You have added nothing except blabbing about your new Samsung LED backlit set rubbishing anyone elses thoughts and have now moved on to questioning peoples experience trying to cover the fact you have been a complete waste of space in the thread.

And finally, I have no need or requirement to justify my experience to you over the past few years. People who have been reading the forums have been able to read of my experiences when I feel the need to explain to someone actually requiring some help, rather than wasting time with someone hell bent on trolling this thread into the ground.

I fail to see how adding my own experience towards an integral part of the topic as rubbishing anyone elses thoughts. This is an open forum right? People can make up their own mind if they want to consider mine as well as other members thoughts. It's also worrying how you as well as anyone else can add their own experience on here, yet I can't because you deem my thread as a waste of space and childish. I was going for quirky with a penchant for humour. Ho-hum.

That's right, you have no need or requirement to do or justify anything to me, I just felt it may be worthwhile for others to know. If you want to just cater for only the people that already know you then that's your prerogative.

Exactly, to some a 'good' tv is one that's really bright and everything is pin sharp. But it looks very artificial imho and I actually find it quite hard on the eyes to watch.

To others a good tv is one which offers a realistic picture, unprocessed, accurate colours etc.

Obviously the second group of people are right :)
 
I though I would add a little bit more to this thread as it’s nearly been a week now that I have had my new TV. So I though id do come comparisons to the Pioneer downstairs to see how well it compares. I was expecting the Pioneer to win hands down to be honest.

HD feeds where very surprising to be honest. The Sony was pretty much a bang on match for the Pioneer, the only thing I would say the Pioneer was better on was the blacks. However, that’s one bad thing about having a CCFL backlit set. The colours are very accurate which is normal shown in the skin tones etc. The one thing I that I very impressed with is the motion handing ability of the set. The motion is completely flawless.

SD feeds are where the Pioneer excels at though compared to the Sony. That said mind, they aren’t a million miles off each other.

Gaming wise is pretty good, there is not noticeable lag from the set and it’s very crisp and clear. However, again I would say this was pretty much the same as the Pioneer.

I will never ever buy a Plasma.

My mates dad only had his Samsung TV for a year, and with all the Anti burn in options available in the menu, guess what.

Menus have burnt in.

A TV should not have the menu option of Anti Burn Protection.

That's because Samsungs are well known for Screen burn. Ive seen LCDs with screen burn!

Well my Samsung 32" LCD doesnt suffer from screen burn but the LG 32" LCD that i have downstairs suffers badly from screen burn...so much so that the sky live banner at the top of the footy matches have been burned in permanently.

Waiting till xmas before i splurge out on a new TV...at the moment got too many bills that need paying so am barely surviving with the LG at the moment...sky hd looks ok-ish in all honesty.
 
I don't see why anyone would buy a plasma personally, everyone i've seen looks dull and the picture just isn't is sharp as the lcd/led. I'd also constantly be worried about screen burn happening with it.

Anyway i had around 1100 to spend on a 46" so bought a Sony KDL46W5500 and couldn't be happier with it.
 
Its amazing how so many people see so many 'different' differences between the two technologies. I have a 32" Toshy LCD and a 42" LG plasma. Both are 720p, both are excellent imho.
The plasma does seem to handle motion better, which seems to be the general rule of thumb; that sports fans go for plasmsa, no?
 
I think the problem is people still associating Plasma's with screen burn where nowadays very few sets have to deal with this as a problem and also a lot of people say LCD's are rubbish etc compared to a plasma which also isn't true, for HD stuff a decent LCD will match and sometimes better a Plasma. SD, well Plasma's win but again, a 'decent' LCD will handle SD just fine for most people.

From my own personal opinion my Sony LCD is better than my parents Panasonic Plasma at games but this is only from brief experience (40 minutes or so on the plasma). SD the plasma wins by far.

Am really wanting to see one of these LED screens in action though :D
 
In general, SD images are better on a plasma. And given that most people in the UK use their TV sets for SD images (by a big margin), SD images should be big factor when deciding on which TV to go for. This is a big reason why I believe that as of October 2009, plasma offers better image quality, for a given price-point.

From what I've seen LCD is the better technology when it comes to console gaming.

If gaming or HD is your priority, then LCD begins to become an option.
