Nope. Its a PR thing. They want to be seen to be being "frugal" while in line to have to pay millions out bacuse of the emmisions saga.

It was "forced" onto the teams by the VAG top management who write the cheques, thats all.

Eurosport guys really need to pay attention and stop talking over half the radio chatter.

This comes up every year. From memory they don't get any warning its coming and the only indication they have that its happening is if they look at the screen with the video feed on it (they have multiple screens on the go).

Makes me glad to be watching watching the official feed... Though the constant "I cant comment" from Gilles Dawson gets a bit old

That would explain why they've missed a few things on track, such as the Audi's door being screwed before it came in to have it fixed and the black/white LMP2 car breaking its suspension over the kerbs at the Ford chicane not earlier in the curves.

They also will comment on things we haven't seen as they have a number of on boards running plus feeds from spotters and the pitlane reporters.

When litterally engulfed in data, audio and video you can forgive them for missing things on a single one of the feeds.
