I thought i would have a crack at a quick general purpose team composition guide. If you disagree with anything, or would like to add anything, please post it
A general guide to team composition and good picking practice.
Rule 1) First come, first serve, but don't be an ass
In general, many people come into a game with a desired champion already in mind. That is fine however it is a better mindset to pick in compliment to the team, not to what you want to play. People who insta-pick-and-lock will play no other champion but that which they choose, so unless your prepared to queue dodge you must pick around them. For example, if you wanted to play support, but somebody has insta picked support, don’t play a support! It is better to select your desired champion, see how the team picks around you, and be prepared to switch out if you need to.
Rule 2) Spread the magic damage and attack damage
If im playing amumu and all the opposition are attack damage, I will stack sunfires and slaughter you all. If im playing amumu and all the opposition are magic damage, I will stack magic resist and your efforts will be like rain droplets falling on concrete. Every team MUST have an even spread of magic damage and attack damage to prevent the enemy from defensively counter building you.
Rule 3) Unless deliberate, always run first carry, second carry, support and fill with tankables
This is the multi-vitamin formulae for a healthy team immune system
Rule 4) Unless deliberate, check your CC, pushing power and raw damage output
Before the game starts, consider NOW whether you have enough of the above to secure a victory. Its no good getting kills if you cant push. Its no good pushing if you cant get kills. Its no good trying to kill if the enemy can just run away from you. CC to lock down, damage to kill and pushing to take towers. Unless you have composed your team for some strategic goal, for instance extreme pushing for the early win/surrender, follow this rule.
Rule 5) Only jungle if your team has someone who can 2v1 without dying
It is no good planning to jungle if you abandon a lane that cant hold out on its own right. Only play this strategy if your team can support you.
