Leaking bath waste but bath is tiled in

Id multitool the grout and try to find where it's attached. If you can find out the tiles you should take them off and do a removable panel then re tile. You don't want to be revisiting this situation!

I recently had an issue with my bath leaking, came thought the room ceiling! Took off the side panel which luckily for me was no issue. My waste pipe trap seals had gone, so when the bath was being emptied or the shower flowing, the trap would leak.

As some above, I'd take the side off and then retile putting in an access tile (assuming there isn't a cleverly hidden one) over going in from underneath any day. That is madness.

You can take a single tile out easily without making too much mess so do that. Go slowly.

The people before the previous owners did this to our bath, god knows why. The cold tap didn't work and the previous owners were too lazy to remove the tiles from the side of the bath to replace it. People don't think about the access or if they need to replace something in the future.

Seriously, cutting through the ceiling and floorboards is utter insanity! You will regret doing this big time.

Get the tiles off, even if it means breaking them. Once the problem is fixed, worry about sorting the bath panel out. You may be able to get some matching tiles from somewhere.

And the verdict was...he made some excuse and failed to show up.

You have all convinced me to rip the bath panel off and replace with an accessible equivalent. The tiles are still available.

Updates when and if I persuade the bloke to come round.

Be tempted to bin him off personally.

How handy are you? Bet we can guide you through DIY'ing it.

Go get a pack or 3 of the tiles soon, just incase they stop making them. Once bath side is removable you can stash them underneath.

Thing is he intimately knows the pipe and bath panel arrangements. Will sack him off after this.

Reasonably handy DIY wise but it needs to look pro.

Lol bantz.

Anyway brief update. The guy came round to do some investigating and we've made the following plan:

1. He's going to check by drilling a small hole from below to see the joist / board / pipe arrangement, as he's reasonably sure the waste runs beneath the bathroom floor and he just connected to that, in which case there's no point removing the bath panel until he's confirmed.

2. If confirmed then he's going to cut a hatch in the plasterboard in the room below.

3. If the waste is inaccessible from below, then he's going to try knocking off a single tile from the bath panel and cutting a hole in the fibreglass bath panel for access.

4. If 3. fails then he's going to take off the entire panel and do his best to make it both a) removable and b) look good.

The good news is that we have 11 spare tiles stashed in the garage (that I had no idea were there).

He's hoping to come round Thursday - Friday next week, so another update will follow then.

maybe 1/2 is the most pragmmatic given Andarial's comment.

Incidentally bad idea to have the pop up and overflow that side of the bath
If it ever breaks (they do you know) you would have to take out the bath to fix it
I have a popup plug and I am a bit paranoid that inadvertently standing on it whilst showering could irreperably damage the mechanism, requiring access.

if there is a fibreglass panel there, they flex a bit from sitting on edge of the bath, maybe grout is flexible, but how will that stand up long term.

I agree with MassiveJim. If you've got spare tiles just go straight to taking a tile off and create a tiled hatch for future access. No point faffing around cutting extra holes and doing more making good if you've got tiles to replace them. It's not like the tiles are small either, what 600x300? not 150's which you would need a borescope to look around.
Just my opinion of course, just seems like making more work than necessary.
