Lease. Too many options!

Immediately :(

Lease ran out in November but I've just had my car grade upped last week, we knew it was coming so held off on ordering.

Depends what you need from the car I guess. The 3 is by far the better drivers car, I'd take the A4 over the C class though, its a tad bigger for the family man!

The A4 SE technik comes with bag loads of kit nowadays, HDD based high res Nav etc.

I'd have a drive of the Mazda, but its just not in the same league as the Krauts. How about the Superb?

3 Series then, what options can you add and still keep in budget? Manual or auto?

The A4 is about to be replaced as well as the C class so both are in effect EOL.

The Skoda doesn't even appear in my list as a manufacturer, so it's off the table from the start.

I've just been back through the quote and actually, I may be able to go for the 5 series, but it would be the 518d as opposed to the 520d, is that a major concern? I haven't driven either yet.

The C class merc would actually make me money, there's a trade-down on it.

[edit]That makes sense with the above statement I suppose.

The 518d is the first 5 Series since the ancient 525tds of 1996 to take more than 10 seconds to hit 60. The 320d is considerably quicker. Tough choice though as the 5 Series is, engine aside, a much nicer car.

He 518d I believe was the efficiency dynamics replacement when the facelift happened on the 5. Is the IS300h on there as the BIK on that is pretty low for what it is?

No, no Lexus at all.

Gonna go drive some cars and see what's what. From what I can tell there's no rhyme or reason as to why the cost comes in at the level it does.

Is the resale value used at all? I thought it was just the list price.

Ah, that makes sense then. I was thinking it was just list price, but I suspect I'm confusing lease cost with BIK.

OK, changed some options around on my offerings and can trade up to a 520d but only at SE trim level.

Still worth it?

Calling at the stealership on my way home to have a look around them both. If they're not that much better than the 3 series I might still go with that, depending on what the business/professional media packs are. The 3 seems to come with a lot more toys.

Not driven SE, but a few people have previously rated SE suspension as being a bit more compliant than M Sport for day-to-day slogs.

Personally, i'd always opt for M Sport (even on my xDrive) due to the leather interior, metallic paint, alloys and a few aesthetic improvements, when suspension doesn't matter.

320d should open up the most potential for options - visibility package, nav (pro or business - both should have phone prep. and USB interface - comm box). Loudspeaker/HK speakers (don't stick with the base!!). Then consider manual or auto...

Saying that however, the 520d base specification is higher than the 320d...

Anything other than SE is above the 120g/kg co2 mark so stops me being able to go for it.

A 520d SE has xenon lights, leather and navigation as standard. The 5 series is a very well specified car as standard now. Just make sure it's auto, a manual and that diesel engine ruins the car in my opinion, whereas the auto works very very well and masks many of the downsides of the 4 pot.

That is the 518 not 520... ?

With the 5-series you'll want the 520 at a minimum (perhaps with auto as Fox says?).

Automatic in the 520d doesn't affect the emissions, yet makes it a little bit pokier to 60MPH.
