Lease. Too many options!

The old comment is simply factual, it is old. The A5 first appeared in 2007, so it's a car that's reaching the end of its lifespan. It's been glitzed up with blingy bumpers and flashing lights etc but ordering a new car at the end of its lifespan means you end up with a 2007 era car really, rather than something far more fresh and modern inside and out. Currently with Audi you have the situation where, say, an A3 is more advanced, has better and more modern tech and is fresher than an A4/5 because it's just been replaced.

It'll happen to BMW, too. In 3 years time there will be a new E Class and an all new XF around so you'd need to think hard then before ordering a new 5 Series. It just so happens that this is currently where Audi is with the A4 and A5. BMW have it currently with the 1 Series Coupe, anyone ordering these new is bonkers.

The A5 was released about 6 months after the old shape 3 Series Coupe (Ok, the Sportback wasn't, but you get the point, it's a different variant of the same car). That was its rival and that's where it was pitched. Which is great if you want to spend £14k on a nice Coupe but rather less impressive if you are placing a factory order or jumping into a 4 month old car.

Have you actually bought anything yet lol ? just read the thread from beginning to end and it appears to be a small anticlimax :D

Less than 4 working days from start to finish and you think it's an anti-climax that I haven't ordered anything yet?

No, I haven't, because I need to discuss trim levels, optional extras and so on with the lease desk before ordering, and understand the impact on lead times.

I can't have anything but the standard options, though actually the 'standard' options offered seem to be greater than base spec anyway.

Not being able to order options on a 520d SE isnt the end of the world, as I said previously it has everything you'd need as standard. The only thing 'missing' is the Pro Satnav, but at least you get the business nav. As well as Xenons, leather, heated seats, etc etc.

I've been interested in this as I have a 5.5K car allowance when I start a new job in Feb but I don't have a list to go off yet.

This isn't through LeasePlan is it Gilly?

Probably will be, to be fair.

Similar allowance too. I was tempted to take the cash as that was more, but it means you have to service it yourself, pay tax, pay insurance, buy tyres...

Indeed, I'm not looking for anything that big either so I may not use the whole allowance. I only want an A3 or similar :)

Well you say that, but you might be best off getting a more expensive car due to it retaining value.

The Mrs will be driving it as well though so needs to be something she's not going to shred down a post.

Sorry, my post was in jest which didn't come over very well.

Christ that's abysmal :/

Looking at what was on the car park, BMW's, Audi's, VW's etc seemed to be the norm, I'll keep the money if it's as depressing as that!
