If you're looking to save money the best BMW models to get are the Efficient Dynamics version. They are pretty much the same spec as the SE but with a slightly de-tuned engine to lower the CO2 output.
I'm averaging 44 MPG in the equivlinent BMW petrol engine with similar power. I have achieved 62mpg average on motorway runs a couple of times though.
Yes.You won't be getting 60mpg from that. I'd say 40-45mpg is more realistic.

Left field but New Octavia?
I've gone from a 530 D M Sport to a Octavia vRS estate.
Cost wise - huge savings - Road tax £30 (5 series was £260), MPG 38 to 51 in octavia. Tons of room, lovely car, very impressed with my first 2 months of ownership. Kids/wife like the space.
Having driven the 5 series for 6 years, I was a bit worried about going with the octavia but overall very very happy. Occasionally miss the poke of the 530 but overall the octavia is very ecomical but still has a good bit of poke when needed (184bhp).
no faults or niggles so far - buying experience was a joy (i know your leasing but still) - overall super impressed.

They seem to have removed the 520d ED from the range with the LCI, perhaps as the conventional 520d is now under the 120 bracket. You can still get the 116d ED and the 320d ED though.
These special models are not to be confused with EfficientDynamics tech in general, which you will find on most of the rest of the range.

Octavia is on the golf platform. And what's exactly wrong with the a4?
A4 is ancient, been out almost 6 years now.

But as a company chariot? its got the updated MMI system, cheap on tax, comes with a bag loads of kit in the company car friendly, and it still get reviewed favourably when compared to the 3 series and the C class. Its a cut above the Octavia,Golf,A3,1 series (FUGLY POS), Insignia's that have been mentioned.
Obviously if the F10 and current E class are well within price range then its a no brainer.

I looked at quite a few cars last summer, and had I been able to get a 5 series tourer, the deal would have been done, but alas my contribution was too high.
Audi - A4 & A6 too similar, dull dull dull, no feel, no soul.
BMW - 3 series, nice chassis, but poor interior quality and design. 5 series, yes in everyway
Ford - Nothing of any interest with Ford at the mo.
Lexus - Posh Toyota, looks chintzy, drives well enough, and they all come with loads of kit, not so cheap as company cars.
Mazda - New 6 looks interesting, but Diesels have never been great, and interior is still jap tastic.
Mercedes - C class, looks good, well kitted out, but interior lacks quality, compared to Audi and BMW.
Renault - Nowt of interest.
Seat - Exeo is a B7 A4, so ancient, new Leon looks like its an A3 clone.
Skoda - Superb, if you need the space go for it, but its not particularly great to drive, and the uber low tax 1.6tdi is shockingly bad. New Octy looks good in VRS trim.
Toyota - Dull as **** in every way.
Vauxhall - Insignia isnt bad, but image means it doesnt belong in the the elite group of the others mentioned.
Volkswagen - Passat, really dull and boring inside, it gets worse on the outside, not particularly cheap either.
Volvo - I liked the V60, D3 engine was quite nice, but its got a horrid gearchange and quite cramped inside.
Ive had my A4 Avant for over a year, its the facelift with DRL's and all that chintzy crap, i love the feel and the interior, but its dull to drive, and aside from the infortainment and space offered, my Accord was a better car.
Get the F10 Gilly, its a no brainer, its just a great car, and they are cheap, the Merc then follows very closely.

Quote has come back. Can't get the 5 on the lease deal. For some reason a personal lease comes in £200 cheaper than the lease deal offered by the company we are contracted to :/

The A4 and Mazda 6 are there on the list too, as well as the Volvo. Don't mind the A4, and the Mazda is interesting, can't stand the Volvo.
