Lease. Too many options!

We've had the advisory email that the i3 is about to make an appearance on our work car options list. Not seeing the benefit though as we have no external charging points!

I must say, we get our cars through Lex and whilst the company doesnt allow us to opt out, the choice of cars is excellent. Even if you are on a low grade you can bump it up if you are willing to pay for it.

Sadly all we can have is diesel cars, but we do get a kickback if the car is below 115 co2's.

Christ that's abysmal :/

Looking at what was on the car park, BMW's, Audi's, VW's etc seemed to be the norm, I'll keep the money if it's as depressing as that!

When I last had a company car the last I has was an Impreza WRX, gone downhill since then

It's a close on e but I think I will stick with the Jag :p

It might not be Leaseplan, I just put two and two together.

My new boss drives a 5 series that was on a 13 plate so I'm hoping I've got it wrong :D

I wonder what they will find to Tax cars on when Electric or some other clean fuel source becomes the norm for the commuting public (as opposed to the petrolhead die hards who keep their old petrol cars for weekend use)

its hard to compare scheme to scheme though as things such as mileage limits etc will vary

Yup exactly, we can choose between 2 lease companies for our scheme, one of which is leaseplan, both have majority of manufacturers and models on there.

Our monthly allowances are low (think mine is about 4500 a year), but its one of those schemes where you get the cash regardless, then if you take a car whatever the lease cost is that's taken out your salary pre tax. If it costs more it eats into your base salary, if its cheaper you get to keep more, albeit taxed.

So even with the low allowance I could get say a Golf GTD on a 2 year no mileage limit for a total cost (lease plus the bik) of £330 a month which is below my allowance, with a GTi being £400 which I didn't think was bad.

Some manufacturers have better pricing for similar models than others, BMW do always seem better value than the Audi and Merc equivalents on the schemes.

I've spent way too much time playing about with the spreadsheet of all the cars and costs to see what the costs are like for everything. The other month they had an offer on the GTD and it was only about 230 a month!

Thing is one of the suppliers is always more expensive so I never even bother checking them anymore.

Still can't decide whether to take one or not, need to see how much driving is involved in new role I start in next week.

Part of me wants the numbers to make sense so I can get something shiny and new again, but hard to justify when the old A3 is still going strong.

Went to spend some time with the mercs yesterday. Called into the Beemer garage on the way back just to make sure I was right.

I think even with additional cost the e class is ahead of the 5 series at the moment. The exterior of the BM is better, but the interior is a long way behind.

Waiting on extended demos of them both now. The 5 will have to be a significantly better drive to pull me back to it.

I am genuinelly very suprised you think the E Class interior is ahead. Personally I think the interior styling is a mess, it looks far too 'utility' and not enough 'luxury'. But I guess thats how opinions work :p

It's the bits behind the steering wheel I don't like in the BMW. They seem like they're right up against the glass and there's no depth to them. Just feels a bit cheap.

Driving them is the biggie though so I'll know in a couple of weeks hopefully. I get a couple of days with each car but I can't book one until the other test is done.

Have you looked at the A6? I was much more impressed with that than the A5...

EDIT: Scratch that, I thought the 2.0 TDI emitted 119 CO2s, but it's actually 129...

Surely just get a test drive at the main dealer?

VW Passat DSG
The E-Class will have the disconnected feel of a Passat with greater comfort and ride quality. The 5 Series will not have the crashiness of the Passat, but you will notice lots more going on. It'll feel like you're 'in' the car rather than 'on' the car.
