Left For Dead 2 .... This Must Be said .....

I'm somewhat confused as to what it is people were expecting?

Take 1 winning formula, improve the graphics, improve the physics/environmental responses, add new characters, gameplay modes, weapons, enemies and put some swerveballs in for good measure i.e. Daylight / Deep South setting etc...

What have you gained from other series games that adds more than the above i.e. the difference between COD4 and COD5/6 ?

There was a similar uproar with BF2 and the follow up BF2142, however the difference between the games was extreme whereas L4D/L4D2 and COD4/MW2 placed back to back look the same with no fundemental changes. The demo of L4D2 didn't do anything for me, it felt the same and simply lacked any 'wow' factor. I fully understand you have to play the 'FULL' game of L4D2 to appreciate the differences but from people I know who bought it their feedback hasnt inspired me either!

I guess 'if its not broke you dont fix it' comes to mind, I'm yet to buy either of the games you mention but I'm sure when the price is low enough I'll probably splash the cash but for now I know I'm not missing out on anything special.,..

and that's just the few of the ocuk lot I have on my friends list :p

I agree with everything you said apart from this. IMO the gfx are slightly worse. Seems to have a more cartoony feel, due to the bold colours and things like luminous green spitter goo etc.

But gfx don't bother me too much as its the game play I'm more interested in.
 
For a lot of people the first game has a special place in their heart, and wanted it to transfer to the second. That was never going to happen.

My only complaint is the new 'special' infected. They dont seem fair/balanced, the jockey always seems to get you with little/no way to combat it & the spitters irritating. Dont mind the rest.

It's about as different and as similar as I'd expected/wanted. It's like buying the new album from your favourite band exactly one album before they run out of ideas and decide to get "experimental".

I have to say, it's a bit too left for dead 1.1. Still the best game of the year for me though :o Some great games this year but nothing can beat the constantly varying camaraderie of playing a spot-on co-op game, and nothing gets it just right like left 4 for dead or left 4 for dead too 2. If you know of a game that does, then tell me. Serious request, it reads like a macho threat when you type it on a forum :o
Either the competition just wasn't there or the format was solid enough to support another incarnation.

I never understood the boycott. Valve are incorporating sign language into the next chapter of half life for gods sake! They're like the jesus of pc game developers! Give an inch and they'll take a mile :o
Valve deserve more than every penny I've ever given them. Can I say that about any other company? I'll think on it, but I don't think I can.

I'd like you to tell me, still.
It looks the same to me, the hard rain level with the crop field looks gorgeous and I like (aesthetically, if not "for christ's sake I can't see a f*kn thing"ally) the helpful sunburst effect.
Toned down, cartoony graphics so that a mid range rig doesn't drop to it's knees when 50 plus zombies are on screen. The perfect balance. The RIGHT approach in my capitalised opinion. I've noticed more post processing, but I'd very interested in what's been tweaked and improved if you're offering to tell me :D
 
I know it wasn't directed at me, but I'd still like to know what was improved as I honestly can't tell, I can kind of see that it looks better on the whole but I'd like to know exactly what was tweaked/improved.
 
one thing is the damage system on the zombies, how they visualise dmg etc (looking into it for my fpy at uni) ill post some others up later, my housemate knows more :P
 
Ah yeah, the hole in the stomach, guts hanging out thing. It's not very nice when you see intestines stretched across the floor.

I was in awe the first time I saw that!

I shot 1 in the stomach as he ran forward and his guts unfolded along the floor as he dropped, my eyes must have lit up as a grin unfolded on my face :D
