Legend of Grimrock - Dungeon Master Fan's !

I've hit the third floor and I think I'm going to stop for the evening. I'm on my third party... 1st was the ones it comes with, 2nd was my first attempt and now I think I've made a party that I haven't yet made any skill mistakes with.

I've been doing a similar thing. Got some way through lvl2 with the stock party, decided I didn't like the way their traits had been assigned, so started again. Only got a short way in before I decided I didn't like my own party either.

Now feeling very indecisive.

Could you share the silly mistakes you thought you'd made? The skill point and trait distribution seems like it will be a fairly delicate balancing act, especially for mages since you can't use spells of a school you've not trained in, it seems...

Went for a 2 high health/armor Human + Minotaur and then a Mage and Rogue back line. However, there's very little in the way of weapons for the rogue as far as ranged is concerned, and my mage just kept 'fizziling' her spells. Got creamed by a mushroom thing.

The inbuilt option for Vertical Sync seems to work well to slow the frames per second and the resultant load on the graphics card. Was showing 160-200FPS and 99% GPU usage, now 60 FPS and 30% GPU usage.

Got down to the third level before getting a bit stuck. All with default team.

The background sounds are really quite chilling, especially the whispering.

Rocks work, additionally you'll have the option for your rogue to be a back row melee fighter once you get the skills high enough.

Need assistance! Can't open a door, halp..

On lvl2 I've opened the door in the room with the crystal (the one that needed 2 keys). When I teleport there's a closed door and I can't figure out how to open it. Any ideas?

Wow, they've really gotten it right :D

Enjoying my first attempt at a party so far - fighter, rogue, and two mages. I'd prefer to know beforehand what each school of magic does, but all good so far.

If it's the one I think it is, and it needs a key then you can pick the key up through a gate

Anyone else have the weird GFX bug I have? the Icons and text are really low res. Completely blurry. Just seen someone's screenshot from page 10 and it is so clear compared to mine.

One thing I just noticed is that ice and earth magic are the only ones that give you worthwhile stat boosts. Fire and air boost strength and dex, which are pretty useless for a mage, but ice and earth boost willpower and vitality - which are pretty useful.

Not sure what spells they align with, but I'm going to bear that in mind when I build my new party.

Look how low res my items are:

I went with this at first, a minotaur fighter, lizardman rogue, human mage (ice, air) and insectoid mage (fire, earth).

For the potential of greater melee damage I've now replaced the human mage with a second fighter (still human) and changed the insectoid mage to fire and ice.

Is it me or do axes not have a bonus when you get the skill to 10 points, unlike mace and sword?

I am loving this its my wasted youth all over again, got to the third level and decided to call it a night but I think i'll be playing this for many many nights to come.

I'm still thinking two front row tanks is the right thing, same as it was in DM. I wonder though if it's possible to have a dex based thief tank. The problem there is I don't know what dex affects as far as damage...

All you need in this game is 2 warriors upfront and a mage and healer at back,no healers in this game so 2 mages, rogue is a waste, shoulda been a healer like good old DM.

On level 3 or four you get a healing potion making kit.

I am actually finding my rogue with a box pretty useful. I have all 4 attacking. 2 fighters up front, one with axe and other with sword. Both tanking it up. The rogue has her bow and mage is ice and fire. Seems to conquer most I have come across so far. Being 24, I am slightly too young to have had experience in these games before, but I am enjoying what I see so far.

Im running what with human fighter Minotaur fighter up front and human rogue and insectoid mage at the back, seems to be working fine so far. Finding it fantastic so far can't wait to do some more dungeon running tomorrow :D .
