Its beyond me why people shell out £700+ for a pc then cant be bothered to pay for an OS the runs the hardware properly

I don't condone in piracy but its completely different as you can't get hardware for free.

Well, it's not that different if you think about it. Sure you can get hardware for free - if you steal it.

The difference is that digital piracy is fairly socially acceptable and miles easier to do.

£100 is absolutely peanuts for something you will use every day for many years.

Actually, £10 is peanuts for something I will use every day for many years :D

I would've happily pirated a copy of XP and other software in the past, but since joining this community I've realised that it's often more hassle than it's worth (although I do work fulltime now and was a student before;)) and at least when something goes pear-shaped you can feel justifiably angry at the devs.:D

Used a illegal version off w7 ultimate for a few weeks, had SO many problems it was mad. Had no software problems with my legit home prem :)

people that are saying you can just use a retail disk or do hash checks etc are you forgetting that after you confirm you have a nice clean disk to install from you are going to run some crack or loader to make it think its real.

unless you can make the crack yourself, u still dont know what going onto your system!

Well I finally bit the bullet and purchased win 7 professional for £40. You only need a child at school to qualify, and that price it is a steal.

You might as well of pirated Windows as you're still not legally licensed.

I'm a student that gets MSDNAA (free windows and all that) but still prefer to pirate my copy of Windows, there's no difference to a legit version except there's no WGA bugging you everytime you try a MS product.

Really??... I beg to differ.

I purchased it as a Guardian to my son. Entered his name and school. I was then told I qualify and given the option to either download or have the physical item through the post.

I used an official microsoft partner and qualified under their (microsofts) terms, then I'd have to say your talking nonsense.

As for you pirating your software when you qualify through your MSDNAA...well enjoy the WGA???

Was that an upgrade version? Most of the deals seem to be either that or an OEM which won't be much use when I upgrade within the year.

Yes its the upgrade package, but you can boot from the disk, choose custom install and do a clean install without the windows.old folder which you probably knew anyway.

Point 1 That is not true.
Point 2 Why would you use stolen software instead of free software?

Never pirate any os ive owned :o , had vista pre-installed on this laptop right away i knew i had to get win7.. kinda meh knowing that win8 (whatever its called) will be out within 2 years.

I agree £40 odd for windows isnt that much for something that you will use often. What makes me laugh is everyone who posts screenshots of the latest Abobe photoshop and claim its legit! must be some very rich people here if everyone can afford that sort of stuff!
