Lent

I'm giving up alcohol.

The practise of giving something up for lent is totally unbiblical. Regular fasting is the biblical ideal, but good luck finding any Christian, particularly in this country, that does that.

I'm not giving anything up for lent (never have) but I did actually give up a load of stuff on the day it started purely by chance. But these will be, for the most part, for good. The reason is that in some regards I have no willpower so cannot be trusted with certain foods.

These would be, sweets, cakes, fizzy drinks, biscuits and crisps.

That may sound like a lot, but I did it once for 1 year and lost a load of weight and I was fine. Can't remember what started me back on it all now.

The problem is that instead of going into the shop and say buying a standard bag of Maltesers, I'd buy a family bag. And a large bag of kettle crisps. And a box of doughnuts. And a sandwich. And a pack of Chocolate Digestives. Probably some Minstrels too. And eat the lot in one 12 hour shift.

I can never open a packet of something like that and not finish it in that sitting. No matter how big the bag.

Fortunately I'm 6'1" and still only 16.5 stone. It could have gotten much worse before I realised I need to do something about it.

Is this something to do with that guy from that fantasy book coming back to life?

You know where Gandalf comes back as Gandalf the white.

Good job on starting :D

Stay away from that shop. Fill yourself up with meat and veg (no homo) to avoid cravings. Cook things like chicken and rice with onions + peppers to take it into work with you instead. Lots of egg whites, oats, fruit, nuts (almonds/walnuts) + water for the win.

I have given up sugar in my tea and sweets :D

Last time I gave up sugar in my tea for Lent I went from one sugar to 2 ;)

Can't wait to have sugar though...tea is pointless without :( or sweets!!!

Sweets is difficult as 4pm is always a trip to the shop for sugar hit! :p

23rd is my birthday too!

If it's any consolation, up until less than a year ago I was a hardcore strong & sweat tea drinker, until I decided I needed to cut out all that sugar. It was weird for the first two weeks not having sugar in my tea, but my palate adjusted very quickly. Now I can't drink tea with sugar in as it tastes just as bad as substituting sweetener for sugar did.

I still have sugar with my coffee though. :p

/sips some Darjeeling.

nom nom nom.
