People don't use the word "golly" much as an explanation of surprise. This is because it's a daft word. However, if enough of us do it we might see it make a comeback, starting with today.

There is a slight danger that people will think we're idiots, but that's a risk I'm willing to take.

Any more words you'd like to see reused?

Some of my friends are very posh private schooled all their lives people. So I'm constantly surrounded with things like :

"Hello old chap.."
"Gosh *****, I haven't seen you in ages you old squire, how the bloody hell are you?"
"Sweet, pub at 1830, tally ho old fella"

Damn army types lol.

I'd like to see "fiddlesticks" and "drat" re-used to express consternation, so much more entertaining than the common four letter Anglo-Saxon expletives that are thrown about with such abandon.

it's well known that more intelligent people use longer expletives
and adding -er or -ing doesnt count

Indubitably. Can we also bring back "squire" as a friendly greeting and "knave" as an insult; perhaps with the latter even prefixed with "foolish" for added weight?

i use squire occaisionally, it carries a good deal of respect mostly, although I can deliver it with a cheeky contempt

I'm all for it; lets try to use more unusual and less offensive words in our everyday lives.

I seem to hear the F word every othe word these days; can youngsters not express themselves without using it so regularly? .... besides losing it's potency it displays a paucity of intellect.

Indeed. The reintegration of the Shakespearean "you egg" as an insult would also be most welcome. There can surely be no comeback from such harsh words.

I use a lot of old fashion langage and my GF thinks I am a relic from the 50's. I much prefer this kind of talk to all the "colourful metaphors" people use these days to express themselves.
