Was having a play with a canon 50mm today actually for the first time...foucses very quickly, thought about getting one before but wasnt sure. But since I never hear a bad thing about them I think its about time I get one.
Ive read that the mrk1's are a better build qualitiy tho, are the mrk's the same apart from a plastic housing?

I think this lens will be my next purchase, seems like a great lens for such a small amount.

3 - It's very dark. (Mash cake!!)
3 - Not getting any lighter!!..
4 - I'm allowed to drink!!
5 - Erm, Woof?
6 -Should've entered this for the autumnal colours competiton!!
7 - Realised I needed a picture for that day nearly ruined photo-advent!
8 - Yuky weather.
9 - Deliberate over exposure bringing the leaves out...
All taken in December with the exception of my abstract image and the lens testing '3d glasses' shot.

Well this thread inspired me to get a Nikon 50MM 1.8 for my Nikon D90. I only got it today and I must say I am VERY impressed. Its like my eyes have been opened all of the sudden to a new world..
Here are a couple of shots I took today with just a light saver bulb up above
The standard lens makes the pictures look as if they are from another camera.. I did a slight temp adjustment in NEF and a slight bump in exposure, but it remains pretty much as it was.
Thank you so much guys for this thread... shame so many are not fully aware of the "fiddy" effect

Singing away after a bit of sherry Christmas day.. (only joking!)
My sis chilling out during a quite moment...
I'm slowly staring to understand his lens. I still need the flash at times due to kids not sitting still etc, an learning high speed sync and other flash settings has been useful over the Christmas period! Sadly only found out about that after a day of rubbish shots. The above I still like though

This is utter naffness in comparison to the other shots in the thread, but, since its one of the first 10 since getting my 50, I thought I'd share it for external critique.

Really want a 50mm for my 400D, whats the best 50mm lense for under £100?

^ for the previous, taken on a 400D with the 50 1.8. I personally could really do with IS though - 2 out of every 3 shots are not usable at native resolution for me.

I like your gulls, I got some similar shots yesterday. Not with the 50 though! The Gulls really batter the ducks don't they? There's 2 swans on the canal by me as well, and the gulls are lot more wary around them!
