As per the title, looking at getting this monitor now rather than a 34" ultra wide for several reasons.

1. Don't want to pay the premium for G-sync so switching to AMD FreeSync plus I generally despise the teenage/immature look of the Acer X34 and PG348Q.

2. My system will handle 2560 x 1080 much better

3. I may not even like it so seems like the right step into the world of 21:9 without dropping a bomb on new equipment.

Just wanted some reviews of people who have or have had this monitor in the past, what the general experience was like?

It will be solely used for gaming.

Thanks!

Excellent.....Pretty much that tbh, how the RX480 handles the resolution?

I'll be moving from Nvidia (GTX 780) so need an AMD card for FreeSync and have obviously been looking at RX480's.

But obviously main thing I'd like to know is, is the monitor worth the money? Whats image quality like? How does it handle gaming, is it responsive etc?

I'm also interested in this monitor.
Looking online at a 29UC88 Curved Ultra Wide for $349. Seems to tick all the boxes for me. I don't need anything bigger.

Is it worth having a curved monitor at this size when you sit right in front of it.

I've just found this for £260 online - from a well known retailer. Nearly £100 cheaper than OCUK so now I'm more interested than ever once I hear some reviews.

Spuddy...can do even better than that as another one is at £250 with an additional £20 off if you sign up to try Which?

I was also looking at the ultrawide but the standard straight screen...if you can is curved the way forward??

I've also got the flat version (29UM68-P) running alongside an RX480. No problems running the games i like at high details (Witcher 3, Shadow of Mordor, and lots of indies). The screen is good quality but the stand is absolutely awful. It may be that i was spoiled by having a dell ultrasharp monitor before, but LG really need a better stand.

As for curved vs straight.. at this size i personally don't see any advantage from a curved monitor. i believe the actual curve on the UC is tiny anyway.

I have the same monitor as Bantu and agree about the stand. It's not high enough, even on its highest fixed position. I use it with a GTX980 and it runs most things brilliantly. Only very new stuff like BF1 is starting to slow a little, but that's likely due to my i5 2500k starting to creak a little rather than the card. I may upgrade the card next year.

The curve is hardly anything, but I've never had one. There's a small amount of IPS bleed in the bottom corners of mine which goes away if you move your head straight on to the screen which is relatively normal, I'd imagine this would be reduced on a curved screen. I'm afraid I can't really answer the question!

Had some Amazon gift cards laying around so ordered the UltraWide 29".
Should arrive this Monday so will report back!

Ahh thanks for the heads up buddy. I take it this shop is easily found using google?

Let me know your thoughts on it when it arrives, Id definitely prefer a curved screen even if only subtle just to 'wrap around' my field of view that little bit more for immersion purposes.

How come there is such different nomenclature between curved and straight?

29UM68/29UC88

Is it definitely the same panel? Judging by screenshots the stand looks a little different on the curved one?

Mine arrived today (love Amazon Prime).
Should be able to get it all hooked up later this evening.
Box is huge, making me excited!

Well this arrived today, will have to put it away till 25th December as I bought this on behalf of my wife for my xmas pressie!!

Sorry, been working away and forgot I'd posted like a Noob.

Mine has some glow in the corners when black screens on films but it isn't noticeable otherwise. Gaming, it's phenomenal. I'm never going back to 16:9 if I can help if from this point on, to the point that the forthcoming cf791 jobby and Vega combo is making me very very excited possibly.

The stand. Worse stand I've ever seen. Mine has zero adjustment and is ridiculously low. I'm a big boy and have the monitor sat on h105 box until I get round to making a nice monitor mount at the right height. Bought it expecting vesa mount when it was cheap on the rainforest and probably should have checked further!

Stand aside though and it's a very good monitor. And a 480 runs it like a champ.

Had mine up a couple of days and blown away at how nice it looks!
Some serious screen real estate in front of you, colours are perfect, nice and sharp. Quickly tested The Division (on Ultra) and definitely won't be going back from Ultra Wide, love it!

The stand is a bit strange, but luckily my setup it's perfect for me.
Will post a pic soon.
