Yup there is a fan and it's a bit audible if u have a silent PC and no sound in the background but it doesnt bother me personally and it's always running at the same speed.

I started looking for a top end (21:9) 3 years ago . . I followed the progress of the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG35VQ . .waited 3 long years for this almost perfect monitor, then the Price of Nvidia G-Sync Ultimate platform is outrageous. All 3 top 21:9 are very expensive . .

- ROG SWIFT PG35VQ
- Acer Predator 35X
- AOC Agon AG353UCG

Then came the LG 38GL950G-B

Way cheaper than PG35VQ but big trade-off for brightness ... As the LG 38GL950G-B is only HDR 400 Nits while the others are HDR 1000 Nits.

I'm planning on buying the LG 38GL950G-B Gaming monitor, Running my desktop @3840x1600 @120Hz 4:4:4 while PC Gaming @3440x1440 @144Hz 4:4:4

I'm going to be driving this monitor with my RTX 2080 NVlink setup .

I'm super stoked to get my hands on this monitor. I'm a proud owner of 2017 LG OLED 65" UHD TV .... Even my Google Pixel 4 XL is using an LG OLED display. ... LG makes the best displays in the world . ..till next generation MicroLED tech gets finished .. Thanks for everybody info on the LG 38GL950G-B monitor . .. .

I wouldn't advise you to buy this one if you are going to game at 3440x1440 since it's not the native resolution of this monitor and might not even work as a custom resolution (I am not willing to test this). It is not available to select as a resolution normally. It's probably better if you just buy a native 3440x1440 monitor. Just my opinion.
 
Well that's a bummer ..

One thing I was very concerned about was PC Gaming .... I can run everything now 2560x1440 Ultra mode settings but 60Hz cap in my way...I'm concerned my 2080 won't be able to drive 3840x1600 Ultra mode level as others are using RTX Titan and 2080Ti to drive top ends ... TU104 is basically a 1440p Ultra mode card and cannot run 4K Ultra mode made for the TU102

I would have to lower all the graphics of all my games to high or medium graphics levels...just to get decent fps. ...

I guess back to the drawing board ... ☹️

I suggest waiting until CES 2020 soon and see what new monitors will be announced. There will definitely be something for u. Or do like Fragger said and get a single 2080 Ti

Yes but the lead-time on monitors now can be pretty massive!! Can be aaaaaaaaages now, must be really early pre-production stuff in order to build hype over a long period of time :(

Thanks for the advice . .. I'll wait to see what's at CES 2020 and probably won't pick up RTX the new 2080Ti Super because Nvidia top end prices are ridiculous expensive as G-Sync Ultimate is crazy expensive too..

I bought my 2080 NVlink setup Black Friday 2018 both together was less than one 2080Ti at the time.. Nvidia pricing stopped my buy and again with G-Sync Ultimate.

Can you see where I stand ...

So I heard now Win10 RS6 doesn't have other 21:9 Resolution in the windows box so very weird...since 3440x1440 is very popular 21:9 gaming standard resolution.

And forcing other 21:9 unsupported by LG firmware drivers I'm guessing....resolutions of course can be always forced in Nvidia Driver.

I don't really want to lose my my SLI gaming as I spent a year customizing every game SLI profile, I have gotten SLI to work very well ... 2080 NVlink in backwards compatibility mode with SLI is very fast. Just a pain of tweaking.

Yeah i get what you mean. Ive had SLI before but never again after all the SLI profile pain and the negative scaling in some games. Hope u find ur perfect monitor soon :)

3840x1600 is 24:10 format

It's a common misunderstanding - even by LG marketing - that the 38" screen is an 21:9 ultrawide. It is NOT! It is a 24:10 format. So trying to run 3440x1440 is not only not the native resolution, it is also a different aspect ratio and it would just look terrible.

In general when looking at monitors and gaming you should always go for native resolution and stay at that resolution. If you need to look at how graphics cards will perform, look at UHD/4K tests and add 25% (as 3840x1600 is less strain than 2160p). So if a 2080Ti can do 60FPS at 2160p, it would do ~75FPS at 3840x1600. 100FPS at 2160p ~ 125FPS at 3840x1600.

Technically there is no 21:9 its a marketing gimmick . ... Even 3440x1440 is 64:27

I don't have a 2080Ti so running 1600p is going to be a problem without dropping Ultra mode settings to keep fps. ....

2080 won't be able to play games negative @1600p Ultra mode level. The only possibility is dropping the resolution down to 3440x1440 then 2080 can handle Ultra mode settings and good fps.

Running 2D desktop 3840x1600 120Hz no problem but running 3D 2080 GPU is to weak to drive 1600p Ultra mode settings....now the debate is get this monitor but run lower Graphics settings .. . I have been running Ultra for years ....or keep waiting another 3440x1440 equivalent monitor ..

Insane is the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG35VQ here in Canada it's $3200.

The LG UltraGear 38GL950G-B here in Canada is $2200.

$1000. Cheaper than the ROG SWIFT PG35VQ all because of G-Sync Ultimate

I'll wait a few months see if price drops.. Other people say wait and see what's at CES 2020 . ... Hopefully people understand just because you see it there you won't get it anytime soon ...

Its even more insane that the PG35VQ here in Swedistan is almost 3400$ USD and not canadian dollars!

PG35VQ was launched june 2019, and the 38GL950G was featured in december 2018.

It wouldn't look terrible just play with the correct aspect ratio with black bars at 3440x1440 and you will find it nearly identical to a native 3440x1440 monitor. Personally I will aim for 3440x1600 as a custom resolution if my 2080ti can't keep up and turn settings to medium/low to try and get near 100fps.

Really the only thing interesting I think will come out of CES is the 48" LG OLED. More manageable size, completely destroy all of these silly overpriced LCDs.

OLED displays is horrible for gaming monitors .. .but OLED is awesome for Movies and TV shows ..

Next big display technology equivalent to OLED and Nano IPS is Called MicroLED. You will see in a few years DP 2.0 16K 480Hz 1ms 12-bit HDR 4000 Nits MicroLED displays....any size .. But you can keep waiting. . .. The LG 38GL950G-B monitor is great ...but missing HDR 1000. ..and no negative 144Hz 4:4:4. ... Limited DP 1.4a
 
Update: So I calibrated my 38GL950G at 175Hz and 4:2:2 and I got an average Delta E of 0.11 and max of 0.77. The color temperature is at 6508K and the gamut coverage is as follows:
DCI-P3 (91.35%), SRGB (99.36%) and Adobe RGB (90.0%).
I'm assuming this is great since I'm using 4:2:2 and the coverage would be higher when using 4:4:4 RGB since 4:2:2 is Limited, right?
