LG 38GN950-B

The problem is warranty and transfer of warranty. If they break they are expensive to post and if not on warranty probably eye watering depending on fault.
mine is brand new unopened. comes with warranty (24 months parts and labor)

edit

aaaaand it's gone

I’m not sure how the LG warranty is. I know some just do it via ship date and others you need an invoice before they can process or do anything.

they are good monitors well the the GL38 variant is so I would imagine this to be the same

Hi guys,

i'm new and this is my first monitr with hdr suport. I don't understand few things. Maybe you can help me?

1. I connected monitor to rtx 2080 by display port cale from the monitor box. Monitor shows popup that I should use oryginal cable from the box. I use it already. :/

2. When i don't enable hdr in win 10 settings i'm not able to enable hdr in games. This is normal?

3. Monitor sometimes shows hdr white bubble popup in right corner in games which don't have hdr. Like tomb raider from 2013. What's goin on?

4. I tried to enable HDR in RDR2 game. When I start game i have hdr white bubble and picture is ok but probably hdr don't work. When i enable hdr in game options picture is grey and washed out. I must turn off to get normal picture. What is the problem?

5. I tried to enable hdr in a.corsa game with shader patch 1.62 and i have this: https://ibb.co/tHS8w3s

tHS8w3s

Btw in other games like new doom or latest tomb raider hdr works fine.

1. This is normal, and only a warning, just ignore

2. Only some games can bypass Windows; Such as Hitman 2 and Doom Eternal, others will require the desktop to have HDR enabled (hoping this becomes a thing of the past asap)

3. Same as #2 in reverse, if you have the desktop in HDR it will stay in HDR (the display refresh on app launch just causes the bubble to re-appear)

4. If I recall, RDR2 is fake HDR (you will have to play with either desktop or in-game HDR setting)

5. Unknown, looks like it'll need settings tweaked

3. I understand but in not all games HDR bubble appears. So when I see bubble in tomb Raider from 2013 I don't have really HDR in game?

4. I want to get the best picture in rdr2. But HDR option in game is useless because picture is grey and with HDR off game looks a way better. I guess something is wrong with this game. I will try to record video tommorow.

Thank you very much for help.

3. Correct, some games arent going to reinitialize the display, so no bubble pop-up.

4. I would play this without HDR, I think Digital Foundry has a video about this, albeit for the console version.

Can you please explain me one more thing. I need longer display port cable than that from the box. I bought 1.4 cable and I have picture only from post and windows logo. Then I don't have desktop but message that cable is wrong. Which version I need?

Version number doesnt actually matter (see post #213)
In short, you will need a high quality cable particularly the longer it is. While the cable being listed as 1.4 "could" mean it will work, but doesn't HAVE to support HBR3, furthermore this only applies up to 2 Meters
Be diligent in finding a cable that supports the full bandwidth.

So if I bought 5m 1.4 cable and it doesn't work in windows mode, so this is faked 1.4? Can you please recommend me good cable or ebay or Amazon? I need 4m or better 5m.
There is a problem with this monitor when you want to use vesa mount and put it close to the wall. Display port plug is too long and there is not enough space between wall and monitor for cable. I found display port angle adapter but it's only 1.1 compatible so probably will not work.

Broke my 34.

I need to upgrade. Wanted to see if low priced 34 were worth a look and I think not anymore...

I have 2 possibilities left :

34GN850 or this 38GN950 (love it)

I intend keeping the monitor for years as I did with my 34.

I wanted to upgrade my whole setup next year (looking for 3080 ti), ryzen 4000 or intel equivalent.

I am afraid the experience, today, with my I7 4790k @4.5ghz and my1080ti would not be enough for this 38 (even if I saw a review on youtube and the guy has a 1080ti as well but no tests in games...)

Can someone tell me approximately how much FPS i could loose for the same game compared to the 34 Lg GN850 ? 10% ?

At the end i am thinking... can I enjoy this screen with my current computer (sim game 90%, no FPS) and wait 3080ti to upgrade it and enjoy this 38 100% ... or is it a bad idea and just go for the 34...but with a grain of regret... I do not want the 3090, and do not want the 3080 (10gb). I want what will come in between

Thx.

Please re-read my post(s); It is not a "fake" 1.4 cable, the bandwidth cert only applies to 2M length, and even under 2M it does not have to support HBR3 (32Gb/s).
Basically, a 5M cable that can support the full bandwidth is way above spec, you will need either a very high quality heavy gauge cable, or some sort of active cable (repeater, booster, fiber optic). Look for one that says it'll do the full HBR3 bandwidth (32Gb/s)

Again, the version number is just a cert, so I'd bet that angle adapter would support a lot of bandwidth (no guarantee) provided the connector contacts are of good quality. But you are already asking a lot with a 5M run.
Sorry, I wont provide purchase recommendations. Good luck.

If you plan on upgrading to another high-end card, and have the money, go big, the extra vertical real estate is worth it IMO. So what if you have to reduce a couple settings right now (I run an OC 1080ti with this panel just fine) and next gen will handle it easily

Some points: I'd expect (hope) AMD to match the 3080 performance with a 16GB+ card as you seem to be worried about the 10GB 3080, But i think the 3080 will do fine. (though yes, I do think a 12GB 3090 or 20GB 3080 will come)
There will be no Intel equivalent (for at least another year)

You say you play mostly sims (assuming racing/flight?) This is the one use-case I would be considering 32:9 super ultrawide.

@Enzarch yes most of the time sim Game like fs2020 I will bought when pmdg737 is available with honeycomb alpha yoke + bravo throttle quadrant.
And yes the idea would be to run my current computer with my actual games : farming sim 19, asseto corsa, ... new rig was planned for fs2020...but later Q1 2021

At the moment if I had to buy something it would be Intel10850k, 64 ddr4, Z490 and 3080 to be ready with this monitor. But I really want to get new intel/ryzen Cpus + 3080ti tests when available and choose components at that time...big changes are coming...16cores/32 treads cpu...

Thank you for your inputs. I guess I could just replace my 34 with this 38 when available (it is pre order in my country), see how it runs with my 1080ti... and be patient for the upgrade...I would just love to avoid less than 60fps on that resolution...even if the objectif later is to try to be betwwen 100 and 144 fps...with that 3080ti.

And yes i am sure the increase of pixels offered by this monitor, vertically, is a real +1 for confort as it is said in this review :
