LG 38UC99 - 37.5'' 24:10 3840x1600 75Hz IPS FreeSync Strobing Backlight

Hi Guys,

Great to see this post today as I have just been at OCUK HQ today discussing this very product with Gibbo.

SO - this will be available in October, and it's looking very much like the launch partner for this product will be........you guessed it....OCUK :)

Spec wise some of what is at the top of this post does differ to what I have so lets go through the best bits;

38" Curved IPS
3840 x 1600 21:9
2 x HDMI, 1 x DP
2 x USB-3, 1 x USB-C
2 x 10w Speakers with Bluetooth & Rich Bass
sRGB Over 99% (of course)
60Hz Refresh, 52-75Hz with Freesync Via DP
1ms Motion Blur Reduction
Pre-Set Game Modes (FPS 1, FPS 2, RTS, Custom)
Black Stabiliser
Dynamic Action Sync - ultra low 9.7ms input lag

All in All this screen does tick a lot of boxes, albeit it does not have G-sync (I know, I know), but I think this showcases what LG can offer you guys, and I am very excited about next year as I hope there is some serious new kit to come!

Those specs look great Dan, and I'm personally waiting for a Gsync model to hit :)

One bit of feedback though, a lower Freesync range (say 35Hz ish) would be a useful addition in future models :)

Nobody is bothered about Gsync. Have LG sacked Stevie Wonder from the quality control department and is LG's customer service still inept.

It's all well and good partnering up with a single retails but they just palm you off with the RMA.

You posted a thread asking for feedback and never followed up on anything.

If you want Gsync you can buy it from how many other brands with all with terrible IQ.

What people are desperate for is a quality monitor that will last 5 years+

Ok man fairy muff, but calm it down a little you're coming across as a slight loon ;)

No-one's forcing you to buy LG or anything else

Nexus18 - I think you and I elude to the same thing with my potential excitement for next year

JediFragger - I 100% agree, a bug bear of mine has been that the Freesync range doesn't go low enough, and believe me this has been passed up to HQ

jigger - I have been helping people from this forum as best I can when they contact me directly to try and get things sorted, and so far I do seem to be able to help. and yes, Stevie Wonder has been removed from the QC department

Well to be fair helping people should be your job and it's great you do your job. However people shouldn't really need you to step in at the first place. That shows LG as issues.

How much is this screen and how much improved is the IQ over the last round of ultra widescreens.

jigger, please tone down the aggressive LG brand and product bashing. We all get the message, you aren't happy with LG quality control or have had some previous issue. Let's leave that out of this thread please

Hey I'm as hopeful as anyone this turns out to be a decent monitor. I really want to buy something like this and possibly several of them. I just want everything to go right first time. Ya know like it should.

Just let me see what Daniels response is and I'll stop asking topical questions.

Hello Daniel and thanks for stopping by.

Would you be able to provide any more technical details for those of us that wish to pre-order?

1. Will NVIDIA cards be artificially locked (frame skipping) into max 60 Hz refresh rate like on the LG 34UC88?

2. Can you confirm the advertised blur reduction at 75 Hz is indeed back-light strobing/flicker? Does it strobe once per refresh or two times?

3. If NVIDIA cards are indeed locked to 60 Hz because of no Freesync, since a built in strobing backlight is completely independent of Freesync, will the 75 Hz strobing backlight work with NVIDIA cards?

Having Freesync is a GOOD thing, but not allowing NVIDIA cards to go above 60 Hz is a pretty bad decision considering NVIDIA has the vast majority of the high end GPU market that is actually capable of running this display properly. ;)
