LG 42-inch OLED

hard to believe my c2 is 4 years old, its still perfect, no burn in. i use it as a monitor at least 7 hours a day

Yep, the only thing that bugs me somewhat is the space I lose on my desk meaning I have no speakers (got it sat on soundbar instead). Mounting not really an option as it would be too high then. This was never an issue until I decided I needed a secondary satellite monitor (portrait). Desk is already 1.4m wide (80cm D) so not changing it. I could use laptop instead of the second screen probably.

Also is this happening to anyone else (probably windows related but while I'm here), when I boot up my taskbar is all squished to the right (normally central), sometimes fixes itself or I toggle show/hide and then it fixes itself.

Nope, my taskbar is fine.

I dont have the soundbar issue as I have the monitor volume really quiet at my desk and just use headphones otherwise! Once I buy my house Im going to get a proper setup for the living room.

Also unrelated, I love my OLED but my parents needed a TV and only had a budget of £1200. It was either a 65 inch LG C5 or a TCL C7K 85inch... mini led is impressive! I got them the TCL. Came down to blackest blacks, better colour accuracy and slightly better upscaling or pure screen estate. They've never had OLED so they won't miss the minor difference as mini led tech has improved so much.

My 34" ultrawide has just died and seriously considering the 42" C5 as a replacement.

I'll be doing a lot of office work on it and reading online there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions on whether this TV is any good for that sort of thing due to how close you're sitting at a standard desk.

My desk is about 70cm deep and the TV will be wall mounted, with the bottom pretty much at desk level.

Is it really that bad?

I've been using my C2 for office type work for years and it has been absolutely fine. I can almost reach the panel with by stretching out, but not quite. It is sat at the back of an 80mm desk, so probably not dissimilar to your scenario.

Depends on your perspective. 100% DPI works where a 28" 4K would not. But if you are used to using a 13" laptop screen I can see how someone might conclude that it's impossible. For me I had 3x22" screens at one point, so this feels far more usable than that ever did (and less neck turning).

Thanks for the reply.

I've been using a 34" ultrawide with a 27" wide display next to it so I've been turning my head a bit anyway.

Laptop is normally closed on the desk.

Think I'll just order it and see how I get on. You've convinced me. :)

Just ordered.

Nearly pulled the trigger on the Alienware AW3426DW but nah!

Fancy something a bit different and we'll see how my PC get's on with 4k.

If it doesn't work out it's all your fault @Jim99 :D

Oh balls. Well, do make sure you tweak some settings to disable some bits that don't work well for PC. I'd expect this:
would be helpful, but if you google you'll find plenty of advice. I used TFTCentral's youtube guide for my C2 but not sure how well it applies to the C5.

I also use https://github.com/JPersson77/LGTVCompanion to automate turning it on and off.

Cheers mate.

Don't worry, I know what I'm getting myself into with it and if it doesn't work out it can be an upgrade on the bedroom TV.

I have been using my C2 42" for about 4 years now and no issues, as above about arm length and it a great bit of kit. Also may be worth trying this out as well which I found to just make everything seem to look better overall

love my 42 c5 for work. I use it for multiple window goodness with my macbook screen off to one side for outlook etc. Love the setup and size. That said I know a few people like the 48" but for me that would be too big

Honestly after a few weeks 48 just feels right and not huge. Its strange how the brain quickly adapts.

Yeah, my 48" C4 is great and feels just right so long you have a deep enough desk to get the distance right. My young lad has the 42" C3 so I know the difference and I could live with either but do appreciate the extra size when gaming.

Actually I was thinking the other day after seeing the tears of joy streaming down @tamzzy beautiful face after I calibrated his two monitors I could do the same for other long standing OcUK members.

I use Calman's latest software with the Calman G1 pattern generator, an X-rite i1 Pro3 Spectro & i1 Display Pro and it's a shame not to let folks get the benefit and try to do some good for others.

So if a few long standing OcUK members would like their LG OLED 42"/48" fully calibrated (Game Optimiser SDR, HDR & DV plus another mode ie FilmMaker SDR, HDR & DV.) totally free of charge and live not too far from Junc 1 on the M5 then send me a message, we'll see if we can sort it.

I've had my 42" C3 for a few years now and I love it, but the upgrade itch keeps appearing. The problem is I can't actually find anything to upgrade to.

The C6 42" does 165hz which would be a nice upgrade to my C3's 120hz but the 42" model doesn't have the new brighter panel that's in the 48" C6 and I think the 48" would be too big.

Fingers crossed the C7 42" has the newer panel in it this time.

Unless they reintroduce DTS no more LG for me

Yep. Monitors are so far behind in some areas that it makes it hard to change. I’m now entering my fifth year of C2 ownership and if it broke tomorrow, I’d get a C6 or 5. I got my blackout blind up yesterday and I am now enjoying glorious reflection free usage. Annoyed I didn't get one years ago.

How is that an issue when using it as a monitor, when your PC can decode? Or external receiver can.* I assumed anyone who would care about such things would not be using their tv to decode such things. I know my basic soundbar has a DTS option which is connected to my CX.

*as text can get misinterpreted, this is a question from a point of lack of understanding, not a question of it being a valid issue.

I am in the market for a new monitor and have seen people mention using normal LG OLED screens as a stand in... how are they for productivity use vs gaming? I have a C1 and a G5 but they are of the 60" variety. Can a 42 or 48 really work for both a prod and gaming setup?

oh yes, I've been using 48" in the past and now 42" for gaming and work every day, perfect screen, big size, eyes are not that tired after whole day work.
