LG discontinues Bluray and UHD players

It this just because of fees? DV Games don't have a fee?
No idea. It's apparently supported from streaming services and in games, but not disk.
Some people on reddit have been using a modded version Kodi and a ripped disk on the Series X and can play Dolby Vision from it.

Just seems deliberately gimped for a couple of dollars in licensing fees.

Hell, add it to Dolby Access as an option so we can pay the couple of dollars license to get it. Just like with Atmos.

Anyone in this thread actually own a PC/mac external 4k UHD player via USB?

rp2000

I have a BR external USB, but I've lost the Y cable for it. Bought a 5.25 4K-UHD internal drive. Only use it for backup of my media not playback.

I bought a Sony 4K AV player as my original BR player was old and slow. I've been buying cheap BR disks of favourite movies. Fed up with the unreliablity of streaming, and availability of many movies.

Tbh recent cinema trips have been disappointing with poor screens and sound that goes from too quiet to deafening. Ears have been sore leaving.

I don't plan on building up a massive library. I don't have the space.

CEX are usually good place to go, some good offers although some aren't far off new prices, and 4K prices are nuts, new and second hand.

Great call on CEX.
I’ve just bought 12 BD movies for £40, all seemingly in great condition.

Have been watching Pulp Fiction again. I’ve clearly nearly forgotten how much better the audio is on BD. Awesome stuff

I use CEX a lot, although the wife still hasn't got used to be saying that I'm popping down to the CEX shop. Some great bargains, although sometimes I can find new at HMV cheaper. But for box sets CEX can be excellent and their website store search is pretty handy as well. Standards definitely seem to have been raised with the discs, I never find any scratches now.

BR audio definitely makes the most of the a/v setup, but two things frustrate me with blu-rays, firstly those that force you to watch trailers, warnings etc with limited options to skip past. Secondly, those that use JS and don't retain last played position. Other than that, I like knowing I've always got them, unlike streaming where they eventually pull the film from the subscription.

Nothing makes you want to pirate like unskippable ads warning you against piracy!

Absolutely!
I was pleasantly surprised that the disks looked mint.
Just got to find a home for them

The new ads on Amazon Prime make you want to go back to physical media. The more the streaming platforms shove ads it might have a negative affect to push people back to disc. We've had streaming services ad free (one of the selling points) for so long the ads are starting to grate.

I've gone back to discs, the thing on Amazon that annoys me, is you want to watch a series of films and the 2nd one is rent or buy, so basically forcing you to pay extra, if you want to watch them.

Discs are great, always there and if you really want to, you can sell them for a bit ofkney, getting some return. Streaming is just money gone.

Oh and I've said before and others, audio is so much better on disc.

CEX are annoying that you order 5 discs and have to pay P&P on each one, even if coming from the same shop.
But still normally a good price.
