LG discontinues Bluray and UHD players

Yup, we've cancelled all subscriptions, they are super annoying.
We do buy a single month every now and then, but noticed, such as netflix, they release a new series, over a few months, with gaps in-between. So we just wait even longer, until it's all out.
Our disc collection is growing and much prefer it.
Yep, cancelled all my subs early last year and have hardly missed them. Have dipped in occasionally, mostly Amazon when I've wanted the free delivery and figured I might as well watch something on there. One cheap month of Disney+ for "Agatha All Along" and a free week of Paramount when I had issues playing my disc of "Dungeons and Dragons" (now resolved) and wanted to see the end of the film, but didn't really watch anything else on either of them while I had them, I think a re-watch of "See How they Run" was the only thing!

Just find streaming too annoying these days, there's a real lack of content and what there is is just getting spread across more and more platforms, plus of course there's the ever increasing prices and greater and greater prevalence of ads. Give it a few years and I bet every service will be even more highly-priced with no ad-free options and even less decent content.

I also notice Netflix especially (and a few of the others) seem to be pushing hard on getting their services bundled into packages like Sky and Virgin that have fixed term contracts, so that you can't just sub for a month and then drop the service again when you've watched what you want.

And certainly never paid for a digital copy of a film, just don't trust that it will still be available in the future and that the service wont have closed down, or removed the title etc.

Had a work colleague randomly tell me the other day that he had just bought Panasonic 4k player and blue planet 2. Guess others are starting to make that choice now also. Isn't' HBO about to launch in the UK soon?

Im not a fan of this move away from physical media maybe its my age but if its digital they could shut the server down at any point in the future and you no long have access to it.

The problem with streaming is it prioritises new content over encouraging you to rewatch the classics. Once something gets a bit stale, there's no guarantee how long they'll keep it around.

Likewise, might by my age but I still prefer the security of physical media. Most of my music is flac, but it's bought and downloaded.

Quite.
I just finished watching the 5 Dirty Harry movies again on BD. Still great movies

I don't like how we seem to own less and less, but with entertainment subs....I won't miss physical media personally. For me, the media was a means to an end. Consuming content as quickly and conveniently as possible whilst minimizing physical storage space, was always priority for me.
I haven't bought physical music or film media for nearly 2 decades I imagine a long time. Don't know when I last did tbh,

What player would you guys recommend as I have an Xbox Series X and PS5 but want all the bells and whistles before they become unavailable?

You can also mod the Panasonic 450 and 820 to DVD multi region, with a little £10 remote control DIY from the auction site. Doesn't change BD region, just DVD

I have one
Can also be chipped for dvd and bluray multiregion. We bought ours predone and it works fantastically. Apparently also works with the 4k discs that are region locked, but I don't have any of those.
