LG Flatron 29UM65-P (29") UltraWide Monitor Owners Thread

Ah damn, glad to hear it isn't just me though!

Weird how the dell 29" can do 75hz without frame skipping and it uses a similar/older panel.....

Well this is interesting, decided to try a different cable (replaced my display port cable with the HDMI cable) and:

- the banding seems to be a lot better, definitely not as noticeable
- on the white saturation test, 253 used to be a lot more visible when using the display port cable and I can't even see 254 now where as with the display port cable, I could just about make it out....

What gives?!

Nice!

Did you notice a improvement in motion clarity going from 60 to 85HZ?

Got to say since reconnecting the HDMI cable, the screen just looks so much better without any noticeable banding now, it has made a massive difference especially for some wallpapers, which I use, speaking of which, here are some wallpapers that I have downloaded from interface lift if anyone wants them

http://imgur.com/a/0ZK0U

Some are 4k 16.9 format but setting the "stretch" option in the windows wallpaper window works well.

Also, this is great for adjusting RGB/gamma:

http://www.phototopics.net/pt_gamma/

My display with 10% brightness, contrast set to 66, custom preset (with RGB all set to 50) and 1.05 gamma for all channels in AMD CCC looks pretty spot on.

Lately really been enjoying the 21.9 format, all the latest games that I am playing work nicely with it; witcher 3, gta 5, wolfenstein old blood and I presume batman AK coming out next month will as well, will hopefully be on 34" 1440 free/g sync by then though...

Just a shame I can't do anything about the bleed and severe IPS glow though :(

^ Maybe your displayport cable isn't great, when looking german amazon there is whining that cheap cable's died in three months..
Like this:

I´m about to buy 29UM67-P and looking answers for the overdrive (does it work when freesync is on), but now there is report that LG may have better freesync area like 40-75hz and maybe newer firmware who knows: http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=82&t=29036&sid=4d45818f0645ae15a53284bced3a6613#p158429

Coming from 144hz aoc g-sync :p +5 years many other 120/144hz screens and before that 100/120crt with 75hz tft setup :) Gaming always first because competitive multiplayer fps games but nowadays I´m looking more picture quality + relaxed single player

This is my display port cable:

Could be that it is crap :p Although I don't think the type of cable should affect the gamma and gradient banding, badass's only explanation for it was this:

can only think it's something related to gamma curves with perhaps some difference in presets from different interfaces on the monitor

Haven't been following LG's freesync monitors but good news that, would be even better if they could get it to go as low as 30 or even 35 though.

No idea about overdrive working with freesync, all I know is that the asus 27" IPS 144HZ screen is fine.

You will most likely need to wait for some in depth review by tftcentral or pcmonitors.info to find that out or contact lg.

EDIT:

Also, I wouldn't buy anything just yet, we should see some more 21.9 free/g sync monitors over the next month or two.

Yeah waiting is the hardest part :)
I just donwgraded my hardware and looking to try freesync. My current samsung S24E390HL PLS monitor is getting back because pixel stuck (first monitor S24D590HL 2014 model was DOA and I exchanged to newer) so I´m looking monitor once again... That 21:9 and 75hz is great compromise + cheap price compared to acer xg270hu (like 150-170€ cheaper) which also needs firmware update..
Acer and benq firmware update info:

Google translate

There is another problem or quality control issues.. Freesync ON there is grey stripes at the bottom of the screen (Comments reveal more + one user said same at german amazon):

Edit,
I dont know but 60hz horrible for my eyes (+ motion clarity) and when using 75hz my eyes seems to be more relaxed

It most definitely is! :D As much as I like my 29um65, I do wish I had held of that bit longer and got a 34" 1440 instead.

That doesn't look good! Hopefully it will be fixed in the firmware before LG release the monitor.

Yeah I am hoping 75HZ is a good upgrade to 60hz for motion clarity for myself, it is the only thing that I really dislike about 60hz screens.

Still got my one here :) OCd it to 75Hz and it runs great :D

Just wish that amd allowed me to downsample at 21:9 res, as I've tried it with CRU and it doesn't like it :( max res I've had is 3200x1800, but that's 16:9 and means I get black bars :(

Plus my 290x isn't quite up to the task for what I am wanting to push it at, I wish I could run witcher 3 at full ultra with 60+ fps, but I'm gonna need to upgrade for that

also considering getting a 1440p display to run along side my 29" for watching/playing content that doesn't like 21:9, this monitor can be a hassle but as my first ips display I still love it and I don't think I could go back to anything that has a TN panel

Do you not got frame skipping at 75HZ though?

http://www.testufo.com/#test=frameskipping

I can't get over 60 without frame skipping :/

I don't think I could go with 3440x1440 for 29" for windows usage tbh but regarding gaming, I think Matt has said that they will be adding more VSR choice so hopefully that means 21.9 res. options too.

Witcher 3 is running very nicely for me on my pc with everything to max except these settings:

foliage and shadows to high
hairworks, sharpening, chromatic, AA, blur crap are off
ambient occlusion set to SSAO

Keep FPS set to unlimited in game and use rivatuner to set a 59 or 60 fps cap and use borderless window mode in game.

Not that I have seen tbh, although I have not tried to test for it

Even with vsr allowing for 3440x1440, my 290x isn't gonna cut it :p so I'm either gonna go for one of the new cards that should be coming out soon or adding in a 295x2 for trifire

Yeah, I have it set higher than that :) getting like 40/45 fps average, might need to change some settings for some more fps

TBH, you should be able to notice it even by just moving the mouse cursor in a straight line across the screen, it won't be completely smooth and will look like it stutters.

Could you post a screenshot of your CRU advanced setting for the 75hz refresh rate?

ah yeah, 290x def. isn't enough for that res. :( You should be ok with 2x290x though, will have less issues with 2 gpus.

Hairworks is the biggest fps killer along with foliage and shadows, the last 2 options, there isn't really much difference in the graphical looks.

Here you go :)

I'm gonna wait to see the 980ti/390x or whatever it ends up being called before I decide on graphics cards, never had a dual card setup so I'm not sure what to expect, ideally I'd probably rather get a single card setup

I accidentally had hairworks turned on whilst playing yesterday and it put me down to 22 fps in a heavily wooded area

Thanks, will try that config out and report back.

Just to double check, you have the 29um65 and are using the provided HDMI cable?

Yeah I would always go single card, less problems and don't have to wait for support. AMD atm is pretty damn poor for crossfire support although hopefully this will change once windows 10 and the 390x lands....

If you want to keep hairworks on, do this:

http://wccftech.com/amd-announces-w...driver-coming-boost-tessellation-performance/

edit:

did you do anything else btw? iirc, there was some AMD patcher that you might have had to do?

Also anything changed on the main screen i.e. the default extension block setting?

Well I will give mega fast review :p Monitor production date was february

Bad news first
Freesync range is 48-75 (for me it doesn't matter)
75hz only activited when you select freesync from monitor menu and when activited look below :(
Biggest downfall was that 2 pixel gray stripe... (will give better picture when I have good light)
Pretty much invisible, but when there is black background it could bother you, (testing backgrounds used http://jasonfarrell.com/misc/deadpixeltest.php)
13865432.jpg

Good news
Overdrive seems to be working with freesync
Didn't test DAS mode with freesync, but it really works (tested with hdmi 60hz) and I´m super sensitive for mouse response ;)
Monitor doesn't have any clouding issues (for now) nor pixel problems
Picture wise best monitor hands down, even those samsung PLS monitors looks cheap :)
Great brightness levels

Great monitor if I dont look that gray stripe line :p

My ex monitors, LG W2363D-PF, Benq Xl2420T & Xl2411T, AOC G2460PG (G-sync), S24D590PL (panel was damaged) & S24E390HL
