LG OLED 2023 Thread - A3, B3, C3, G3

Anyone upgraded from a CX/C1 to G3? I'm seriously considering treating myself to the 55 G3 to replace my 48 CX as my monitor/TV in my bedroom. The fact it mounts flush against the wall will gain me 12cm over my current wall mount and in no way do I find the 48" too big for gaming. Just wondering if anyone has upgraded from those models to the G3 and did it blow you away?

I don't know about from a CX/C1 but going from the C9 to the G3 was a nice step up, HDR highlights are much brighter and the whole HDR image just seems a lot better balanced, the build quality of the TV is also a lot better than the C9, always hated the top of the screen being so thin. Upscaling for SDR and 1080P is also better.

QMS-VRR is also a nice addition and works well with my Apple TV 4K.

I've gone from a 55" C7 to a 65" G3 and it's notably better but I wouldn't say it blew me away.

I much prefer the G3 chassis as the C7 always worried me when moving as it was so thin at the top.

The new version of Web OS feels like a side-grade at best though, preferred the old version but you do gain support for some new apps such as paramount plus which the C7 didn't have.

I've not used it for gaming, but I can see the 120hz/VRR support being a big step for those that use it.

My C7 had to have it's panel replaced multiple times with burn in after a year, then an increasing number of dead pixels on the second panel, then absolutely awful colour tinting on a replacement panel which also had dead pixels from new.

I'm hoping things have moved on with OLED and the G3 is less problematic long term.

I pondered about moving up to the G3 over my C9. After the dust settled I realised the C9 still does more than enough to impress me....so I may as well wait for bigger gains to come a year or 2 from now.

Have TVs plateaued?

I've changed TVs every ~3 years as technology progressed so quickly.

But now, can't see any real advance since I got the CX.

I'm not sure what's new. Brightness maybe. But that doesn't feel like its worth spending over £1k for a C3.

I’d say the peaked with the 9 series oleds.

I had an E9 which I sold on these forums to upgrade to the latest LG oled and to be honest there’s minimal difference in image quality.

The main reason for changing is that I wanted native freesync support incase I ever changed to an AMD card.

I don’t really know what they can do to improve things. The pictures on these oleds is close to perfect.

You could probably keep hold of any modern LG oled until 8k becomes mainstream (a long way off) and be fine.

I agree it's all much of muchness now. Quality is got to the point where you know just enjoy the content now instead of nit picking about the tiniest of details.

Pick a size, get a quality oled and the tier of brightness you need. Done.

Well G3 is far ahead of any previous LG oled, the difference is night and day.

I'm coming from a basic £399 Philips LED TV to one of these C3 things. I'm expecting my socks to be well and truly blown off.
Even stuff like YouTube videos will really show it off (try Tokyo night walk 4K). Some of the Marvel movies in 4K from Disney+ will also look good.

I'm hoping to pick up a 65" C3 on Black Friday. Am I likely to be disappointed with the price reductions given they're such a popular TV?

Historically LG oleds (and tvs in general) have massive drops in price towards the end of their life cycle.

I can’t see any different happening with the C3 range. It’s a mainstream product that stores will want to sell stock of before new versions release.

The best time to buy a tv in my opinion, is always just before the new range launches.

I tend to go for the high end models and they end up being cheaper than the new mid range.

I’ve done it with the LG E range (before they were replaced with G), the Samsung S95b, etc.

You’ll be absolutely fine, if the price isn’t where you want it during Black Friday, there’ll be more price drops in the new year up until all stock is cleared. Often cheaper than Black Friday.
