LG OLED 2024 thread - A4, B4, C4, G4

Compared to BK Monolith / Monolith +?

OOhhhh boy...

I'll see, I've been surprised by smaller systems in the past how they seem to punch above their piddly appearance.

And I do tend to bottom out my Monolith + at the same time, lets just see, at the very least it's a toy to play with for a little bit lol.

Do you have a sub sonic filter with the BK? That could be the problem. I have a few methods to apply sub sonic filter and it certainly helps with ported subs.

No? Not sure what the purpose of that is? Stops it going below its tuned frequency?

To cut frequencies below the port- if you sent and the sub attempts to play frequencies below the native tuning of the ported sub, you'll cause the driver to bottom out really quickly. THD goes through the roof, output goes down. It'll also reduce/stop port chuffing

It does the same thing as what the low pass does, just on the other side of the frequency range, say apply a 12 db octave slope below 20hz

If you have a minidsp you can apply a sub sonic filter. Some subs have them included, some don't.

I tried with a sealed sub as well (generally sealed doesn't need filter as they trail off slowly, rather than ported where driver suddently bottoms out) that also gave me several more db headroom/output. Also if you have a budget sub that is even more useful, with a sub like the LG soundbar sub you'd probably want a sub sonic filter set to 30-35hz hz. I can adjust sub sonic to something like 60hz, so it was pretty interesting just how loud my sub could go setting to this- so shows it gives me more headroom...although no way would I use a 60hz sub sonic filter hhaa

Minidsp setting, it's called "high pass"

just set it low, try a few to see where you can cut LF without affecting the low bass too much, but enough to take very low bass to help with chuffing/bottoming out, but say go from 10hz-25hz and you'll notice where it's best set

I don't have a minidsp unfortunatly.

How do you EQ the sub? AVR? I've seen some minidsp's going pretty cheap. There's also a clone of minidsp which is more affordable I can't recall what it's called though.

If you have a PC try using that for sub sonic - probably some kind of plugin for media player, see how it compares and if you notice a big improvement then get a minidsp.

Just found this, a single one could be an option

I've gone for the 65" C4, keep beating around the bush about it and then wishing id just gone for it :D

Coming Friday, just used the BLC code and the little "first order" discount in the end.

Received order confirmation

Then just now received an email saying "Store item on hold"

Does that mean it's not in stock? Or did we all get that when ordering through LG

I had that, then my delivery date was set to 18th, then changed to 19th, no other updates yet, getting a bit worried it won't come tomorrow.

Yeah it's a bit misleading.

Since posting the above, I have received another email saying the order is now being picked so bit of a strange one to send out between the two

Fingers crossed for your delivery

So I've always found the LG software to be a bit.. sluggish/clunky/lacking?

Is it better now or would it be worthwhile grabbing an Apple TV or something similar?

When did you find it sluggish? IMO it was snappy on most high end LGs until the 2021 revamp. 2024 models feel slower to me than my 2019 and 2020 :(

So my soundbar was split delivery from my tv. TV arrived on the 19th Feb at 10 to 10, the soundbar on the same day at 5pm.

That sounded a bit like I was announcing a child didn't it?

Anyway I plugged the soundbar in, and at first I was thinking this is REALLY weak, but it must have been a pairing issue, I put a song on and I had to go over to my BK Monolith (the LG sub is sat on top like a toddler on his dad's shoulders.) to see if the bass was coming from the BK, of course, can't have been as it was unplugged, considering I snapped the connector in half when installing the TV.

I was surprised of the bass coming out of this little thing, how do they manage it? It was going pretty low as well, what sort of wizardry is at play here? I am in a major dilemma if I should keep this now, I am going to give it a good thrash though in the day and see how it copes at reference volume and see if it still keeps up, but the appeal on top of that with the fact the speakers can simply "float" under the LG C4, and the subwoofer will mean a much better feng shui in my room, this is a VERY HARD decision

55" B4 was delivered yesterday.

It's more than bright enough for my room. This is what I was most worried about so thankful for that.

Immediately noticed the weird auto dimming issue when I loaded up Spiderman 2 on my PS5, google suggested turning off Quickstart+ and for some reason that has fixed it.

The WebOS interface is dog poo. Cluttered and super slow right off the bat. Massive downgrade from the Home interface on my old B8.

Still, it's so nice to go back to OLED. I've missed it. :)

Nice sounds good (except webOs)

If I got an Apple TV, would it automatically switch to that input when I turn that device on? Or will I constantly be having to use WebOS to change input device over to the apple tv (if that makes any sense)

Also I have a Sonos surround set up (for better or worse) connected Via eARC currently on the CX. Will this all work in surround with content through the apple tv?

*Just had my email saying it's due tomorrow so fingers crossed. Have sold my CX too so that's all good

I don't know about setting an auto HDMI input, a quick google suggests it may be possible.

I also have a Sonos (+2 satellites) via ARC and it just automatically works with all of my HDMI devices so I don't see why it wouldn't work with Apple TV.

I think the newer LG TV's offer a default input setting. My C9 does not :-/ so I have to use a macro on my learning remote

I could use HDMI CEC but then it does things when I don't want it to do. Unless I can set HDMI CEC to input change only and not power on/off? Hmmm might look into that.

So I was having a day at work when I needed a lot of screen space, and plugged into my 48 inch C2. It looks stunning as a monitor, and now I want an OLED for my desk.

Anyone aware of decent deals on the 42 C4?
