Lies of P looks incredible

Reading this thread made me lol at writing off a game from alpha footage

Almost as good as those in other threads saying that hardware is the issue, not the game, then spouting off that x VRAM isnt enough to play a game at release - or more commonly known as beta, alpha and the video in OP is PRE-ALPHA! looks good for pre alpha level. Just a shame game devs think it's OK to send out the beta these days and pay MSRP to play it. Alpha & Beta testing used to be sign up or free - now it's MSRP to be a tester. Why I no longer buy games on release let alone MSRP. Wait till half price - when it's fixed optimised and back more towards the 'ol,

The way it's meant to be played. Some seem to think that the games are fine and current ahrdware is lacking - usually down to VRAM which any poorly optimized game will do better with more.

PAy MSRP for the game and then need +£1000 for a card with lots of VRAM to play the beta....................the way it's not meant to be played.

Steam demo is up for this, release date of 19th September.

Thoughts after a quick run of the demo:
  • Runs great and isn't locked to 60fps like a lot of the others, did find it a bit blurry/muddy so might have to do some tweaking
  • Graphics wise it's ok, doesn't feel like it was popping with detail though. still looks very passible as some of the designs are quite interesting
  • They've gone for the Bloodborne style of combat over Dark Souls/Elden Ring. It does feel quite a bit slower to play than those games though
  • Control wise it's ok, maybe a bit sluggish and floaty in feel, the dodge distance doesn't feel great, things seem like they have a lot of wind up. My main issue is a lack of oomph when you connect are are hit yourself
A bit underwhelmed and much less enthusiastic now if I'm honest, it's only a small section of the game but it fell a bit flat for me.

Well it defaults to "Best" gfx settings out the box but does not allow you to select a DLDSR res (native 3440x1440 and I normally game at 5160x2160) which is a shame.

Although I have to say it doesn't look all that so not missing out on much anyway. 250+fps when unlocked without any upscaling but I lock everything to 120fps so left it at that.

Strangely if I enable vsync (144Hz/fps) then the frametime graph is not flat but has a constant thick line. if I enable a capped fps and disable vsync then the frametime graph is totally flat. Vsync implementation then in this game is bugged, same as DLDSR support. It also enables FSR by default and DLSS was off which was highly amusing...

The mouse camera movement has that soft spongy feel to it like various other third person games, no RAW input or Reflex support.

The keyboard movement controls have no soft stepping, you press a direction key and the character instantly faces that direction, it does not look natural at all.

Combat feels mundane and weak, there's no involvement, and combat itself is slow, each strike takes time, it's nowhere near Witcher 3 levels of combat response for example, or other recent third person games. God of War for example wipes the floor with it for combat mechanics.

Overall glad there's a demo, it's definitely not a polished game, but kudos for optimising the engine to run very well I guess. That's the only positive as far as I can see.

Quite liked this. Ran well on steam deck, surprisingly better than I expected graphics. felt like I only really felt the movement once I got to the boss. As mentioned the enemy attacks elsewhere were quite slow during the fights.

For souls likes it's seemed decent. Mechanics feel good, but not from software good.

Lots of little stepping and shuffling, got into a rhythm fighting the boss. Keep dying to stage 2 though. Will try it on PC.

It's a maybe for me. Which is more than I normally say about souls likes !

Pretty decent reviews

Average of 81

Just done intro and first boss, liking this so far, but the graphics are a little basic, at least it runs smoothly rather than looking amazing and being a poor performing mess.

Looks like it was localised in Asia and then dubbed for the English speaking audience as the lip syncing is horrific, fortunately don't spend much time talking to people!

I need to finish up Uncharted Lost Legacy first but will get back onto this soon.

Yeah its not too bad, not a game that I would ever have paid for but as its on gamepass thats ok

Is it a good game or full of P ?
Its fairly decent for a souls like, its not really my sort of game though as I tend to find games like this to be more frustrating than fun and I generally like to finish a gaming session looking back on it with enjoyment rather than leaving the computer for the day being wound up, but if you like souls likes its a pretty decent one

I don't mind, in fact looking for slow paced games, but this one look really repetitive. Watched it couple days for about 2h a day and every fight, literally everything felt the same.
Most fights are the same yeah, thats pretty par for the course with souls like games, the trash mobs are usually much the same and dispatched in the same ways. The souls genre tends to be all about the boss fights and the bits in between are fairly mundane. Elden Ring being the most notable exception.

thematically does nothing for me, it's a PG rated souls clone. You're a young pretty boy version of Pinocchio fighting clumsy clockwork enemies, pretty far from the settings in From software games

some of the terminology is hilarious, you can attack enemies to put them in groggy mode
