Lies of P looks incredible

Its fairly decent for a souls like, its not really my sort of game though as I tend to find games like this to be more frustrating than fun and I generally like to finish a gaming session looking back on it with enjoyment rather than leaving the computer for the day being wound up, but if you like souls likes its a pretty decent one
I'm in the same boat as yourself, cant get into the dark souls, elden ring sekiro types, as i find them 2 difficult and just get frustrated

Played it via Gamepass. Lasted 20 minutes before turning off, that first "boss" just kept killing me and it seemed very not my thing even upto that point.

Think ill try some Assassins Creed Origins instead

Sekiro was my fav Souls game so far and the only one I've been bothered to complete, I don't think I'd always want a game which is as hard as it, but the feeling of accomplishment you get after taking down a hard boss is hard to beat.

I have been meaning to try Elden Ring at some stage though not really in a rush to do so.

Yep it does run very well no performance issues at all on my end, some graphical effects go a little weird though.

I did the 2nd boss last night, but felt it was fairly impossible without the spectre thing you can summon, which is a shame. I wanted to beat the boss without one if I could, but those damn lightning attacks wreck you pretty fast.

Played via gamepass and reminded myself why i dont play souls games, i simply do not have th patience to even push past the first boss :P

Totally unimpressed bar the graphics, the blocking is terrible and the VRR flickering in this game is horrendous! Apparently a known issue!

Boss #4 down, that was the hardest one yet. I had to grind 11k Ergo to bump up my carry weight a little.

I got a new giant sword from one of the boss item exchanges, it's called "Holy Sword of the Ark" and the handle lets you flip it between sword mode and glaive mode, which is useful. Sword mode is a little slow to swing but does more damage, I think I prefer the Glaive mode so far.

I'm still liking this, I'm not convinced I will re-play it or NG+ or anything (if it even has one), but for a single playthrough it's holding my interest so far.

Wish I could give my boy a haircut though.

For the guys who don't like the game, is it because the game isn't actually any good or because it's a soulsgame?
I have no idea what a soulsgame is, but I found the fact the first boss was killing me every 3 minutes no matter what I did put me right off.

I think you'd need to go in with the mindset of what this game is trying to be and what it means, which is along the lines of a Souls game. It's not going to hold your hand or give you an easy difficulty option either, each boss will likely be harder than the one before it.

Souls games are anything in the Dark Souls series or spin off games, so Dark Souls 1 - 3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring etc.

These types of games have a specific game loop that is quite different to your standard game like God of War or Ghost of Tsushima, it's a lot less forgiving. They are known for being hard games that require learning the boss encounters and dying a lot as you go around, learning how to progress further.

I don't love the series (Dark Souls) but odd ones can capture me for a bit, my fav being Sekiro. I need to try out Elden Ring sometime.

Sounds like a soulsgame :)

This doesn't sound like your type of game TBH and soulsgames are very challenging in that they require you to figure out the enemy mechanics and learning their moves so you can either parry or dodge and you have to be patient as you'll ending up dying most of the time figuring it out. It can be very frustrating when you spend hours on a boss but when you beat it, it feels very satisfying.

I hate souls game as I'm generally rubbish at them, but I surprisingly loved and completed Elden Ring, I think because it was more open world and that you could go off and do your own thing made it my type of fun.

Yes from what I understand it is.

With Sekiro I loved it for the fast paced parry combat, rather than totally relying on rolling around dodging.

Also had some different paths you could take, if a boss was too hard you could usually go somewhere else and fight something else.

Lies of P does sort of force you down one path so less choice, I had to fight Boss #4 a bunch of times and had to grind a couple of upgrades to do it.

I would 100% recommend ER, it's a fantastic game and you can spend hours just exploring. And if Bloodborne get's a PC release I would jump on it.

I'm the same as this, I'm generally hopeless and get frustrated with soulslikes, but Elden Ring was my GOTY last year. I found it a little more accessible and forgiving than most soulslikes and the world was excellent

From games aren't that impossibly hard, they're challenging in the beginning but if you stick with them for a while you'll be rewarded with great level design and atmosphere, a great combat system/build options with imposing bosses and a sense of challenge on top of that + many secrets and lore to dig into.

Like in BB and DS1 you can be halfway through and find a shortcut that loops you back to the start.

Bloodborne and Sekiro are my absolute favs but ER is a must play for freedom, the quality of legacy levels and insane build variety.
I'd recommend DS3 as well overall, not the best but still great levels and bosses.

I'm currently playing through Demon's Souls Remake and the amount of ideas incorporated into the world is great, especially for the game that started the genre. Shifting world tendency that unlocks places, changes quests, enemie, affects the characters you meet etc.. Some stuff is only accessible in Pure White, some in Pure Black world tendency.

Too bad they didn't reuse that in the sequels.

I'm really enjoying this, have only ever played one other souls game (Elden Ring) and that was on release so not for a couple of years. The graphics are awesome, the mechanics are exactly like Fromsoft games and the level design is definitely inspired by them too.

Currently just at the end of Chapter 4 and will try and finish this - hopefully before lords of the fallen in a couple of weeks.
