Life in South Africa...

Well my dad moves to the UK this weekend thankfully, but my brother not til the end of the year, heartbreaking, but proves me moving here all those years ago was a great decision.

What's with the purge?

I mean in this thread, not in SA which greatly resembles the films right now.

I don't know. I posted a short 30s video showing nothing but wreckage in the street after the looting (cars, trucks and random detritus strewn all over the place) and recieved a warning because, for some bizarre reason, it was deemed 'inappropriate'. So your guess is as good as mine.

This is genuinely a bit heartbreaking for me. My wife and I both went on holiday to the Blue Marlin in Scottsburgh as kids (way, way before we met obvs, just coincidence) and we both have very fond memories of the place. We went past it a few years ago and it was still going, albeit really showing its age. It's a rather famous and popular hotel in that part of South Africa, so I'm not expecting it to survive with much :(

Things certainly do seem to be going down the pan at the moment, just looking at the police they don't seem to be particularly competent at all, I know from friends who lived there for a bit and no doubt you've perhaps experienced yourself that they're super corrupt and in rural areas it's best to just hand them a small bribe at a checkpoint etc.. + people just rely on private security companies staffed by ex-police anyway.

The BBC are picking this up though, right?
The BBC tonight were too busy interviewing a chap, who said this was all the result of historical racial oppression against black people. The interviewer just accepted this right off the bat and asked what could be done about it.

A bit unreal to hear as it's such a small place but i stayed with family for 6 months in scottsburgh. Thankfully they moved after only a couple years but when you think about all the chaos in SA you would think Scottsburgh wouldn't be effected much. A quiet beach town which gets by with dive tourism seems so far removed from the big city life/ issues

It's like London knife crime/ riots spreading to a small town in the cotswolds or something. Really unexpected.

LOL, love how that's the default angle these days, nothing to do with a corrupt former leader having to do a bit of time in jail in relation to that corruption and then his supporters/members of his tribe kicking off.

I guess I can't embed this tweet as the one directly above it has two dead bodies and for some reason, the forum software puts in the tweet above when you post one from a thread, but here are some Zulus literally armed with spears, one with a traditional shield too. Like WTF???

Incidentally, the tweet above it has an embedded tweet that claims the two dead blacks pictured were killed by Indians, this could turn into quite nasty ethnic violence with attempts at "revenge" etc..

Stuff like this across social media whether fake news or true is just going to cause more division/tribal behaviour - there is already footage of masses of Zulus on the march, combine that with say community defence groups and/or security firms or these Indian business owners who are armed and you have more bloodshed and potentially more riled up again.

That side of it is getting messy - few videos doing the rounds of Indians supposedly driving around shooting at black people - I don't know the ins and outs of all of them but at least one of those was clipped from a longer video where an Indian family was surrounded by a mob and rescued by another Indian group who had guns and were only firing warning shots to get clear of the mob - but they didn't show that bit...

There's a video of a black guy maybe in his 60s dressed in a suit telling the crowd to find and kill Indians and whites and burn their houses down. The guy looks like a politician or some kind of higher up.

Here's your reminder that Zuma comes from the Zulu racial group in SA.

The Zulu's in SA are literally ( and I use that word in the correct sense) the descendants of violent, genocidal invaders of the land they now occupy.

Strangely this is almost never mentioned by the media who will often like to talk about the plight of supposedly 'indeigenous' people when it comes the evils of 'white' invaders.

The Zulu's are (not always so well) remembered for their vicious warmongering and expansionist drive (launched under Shaka) through the south of the African continent which is known as the Mfecane 'The Crushing'

'The Zulu practice was to absorb only the women and young men of a clan or village. They killed the elderly and men of fighting age; the lucky ones escaped.'

It was of course this expansionistic, bloodthirsty warmongering that bought the Zulu's into conflict with another, at the time, colonialist force, The British Empire, around the time of the Battle of Rourke's drift .

Fast forward to today and we have the wonderful 'Rainbow nation' that is South Africa complete with legitimised open state racism against whites and we find a fairly recently re dedicated airport named in honour of the bloodthirsty murdering tyrant that was Shaka....

King Shaka International Airport so dedicated in 2010...........

An internet search for 'controversy king shaka zulu airport' on a popular internet search engine brings up a front page filled with stories concerned not with whether it was a good idea, in modern times, to name an international airport after a murdering, expansionistic warlord but instead a page filled with articles about how people were annoyed that a recently erected statue to said murdering tyrant didn't show him armed to the teeth with the very weapons used by his troops to kill what may have been 1 - 2 million of their fellow 'black' Africans

Of course the good old BBC described Shaka rather euphemistically as being a 'Warrior King' where as they describe a white man (who was arguably far less destructive in his time), Cecil Rhodes as being an 'imperialist'

And now utterly unsurprising that the socialist leaning ANC have proved to be a total disaster for SA.

If there is one thing that could make socialism worse than the *** show it is it surely has to be the addition of tribal politics in to the mix

The TL;DR for those not knowing whats up.

* Ex-President Zuma's been failing to bother pitching up to his corruption charges, time and time again.
* Black judge got sick of it, sentenced him to jail for contempt.
* Zuma lacky starts inciting his supporters.
* Profit ... or in this case, loss of Billions and future unemployment for many.

Understand, this has nothing to do with racism, and everything to do with corruption and lawlessness.

One thing that moving to London (initially on a working holiday in 2001), was opening my eyes to how cancerous a society South Africa has, regardless of the great beauty and wonderful people that live there. I now live in Australia and am so glad the way my life had turned out.

Look at the protestors @ 3:08 ish. These are not some destitute victims looking to feed hunger.

It's symbolic. There's a strong tribal/racial aspect to this, so tribal/racial symbolism matters. It also serves as an identifier - they're extremely unlikely to be killed by other Zulu on a tribal/racial rampage. Maybe the goal is to restore and carry on from the Zulu conquest of parts of Africa a while back.

As for the practicality of the choice of weapons, a lot of the genocide in Rwanda was done with machetes and spears are more effective weapons than machetes. Not that it matters when almost all of the victims are unarmed civilians.

Judging by the stuff going around on social media, etc. sadly looks like all sides are being manipulated by those, probably external to the country, who don't have South Africa's best interests in mind, playing on their prejudices, etc. to sow diversion - reminds me in some ways of Brexit.

Someone is going to profit from this and probably not those in South Africa.

Maybe the mods should explain...

I have a "friend" on Facebook who is from SA. He seems to think that all Africa's problems come from white people and colonisation.

He is a doctor but seems kinda racist against whites.

It seems that the more white people that leave SA , the worse it gets.

Africa was hardly a becon of civilisation before the west arrived. And now they are getting involved with the Chinese. That's going to end up even worse for them.
