Life without Breaking Bad

Justified. Right up there with Breaking Bad, The Wire and The Sopranos. Ignore what most everyone else says - loads of good shows mentioned in here but really nothing comes close.

This man speaketh the truth, the script alone is worth the watch. Some of the dialogue given to the main 'baddie' Boyd is truly some of the best stuff I've ever heard on TV.

Only Al Swearengen from Deadwood betters it.

A quick read up about it and I was sold when I saw "based on Elmore Leonard novels...."

Oh yeah BSG I keep meaning to watch that, must have watched the pilot 3 or 4 times now and never queued up the rest of the series :p I think it's because the series spinoffs (Caprica?) confuses me, which is the best way to watch it?

I would personally just binge watch BSG. Caprica is so-so .

No mention of Vikings?! Shame on you guys. When the first season came out I dropped both Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones to binge watch. Season 2's just finished and it's still excellent. Fargo is also shaping up very nicely. Billy Bob Thornton is a creepy mofo in that!

Otherwise, what everyone else has said. Justified, True Detective, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, The Wire, Sopranos, BSG all being personal faves.

Caprica is pretty much removed from any real relevance to the main story in BSG however if you've not watched any of it yet I would reccomend watching BSG upto the original season break in season 4 - the "Revelations" episode IIRC then watch Caprica then go back and finish season 4 as theres a lot of stuff in the last half the season which its easy to miss the deeper significance of from the contents of BSG alone which Caprica spends more time on. (The last half of season 4 is actually kind of the end game stuff for what is going on in Caprica).

Forget Caprica and just watch the main BSG series. Caprica was awful compared to BSG

Eh Caprica wasn't amazing but it does flesh out some of the background stuff about the cyclons a bit which IMO helps to make Season 4 of BSG better as it gives a bit more meaning to some of the stuff the cyclons are doing.

Back on topic I just gave the first 2 episodes of Blacklist a whirl and didn't find it too bad, certainly got a enough intrigue without shooting its bolt too early to possibly stay interesting awhile though seems to be a bit like Covert Affairs but less annoyingly done.

I too found Breaking Bad to be overrated. I stopped enjoying it anywhere near as much after season 3.

I still thoroughly enjoy Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Boardwalk Empire, Hannibal, and I enjoyed the cheese-fest that is "The Following".

You should probably go back and watch the first episode in it's entirety.

Or he could skip it and watch it later. The series skips about anyway, based on the 1st episode I never watched BB till the 5th series. It does take some time to start, I didnt really think it was stellar till well into the time they are back at Jesses house

The Wire seriously needs subtitles for new watchers :p Only saw that on BBC randomly yet it is one of the best ever probably.
Sopranos and Hannibal are top tier, dont think any others rate quite as high. Even if you dont especially like the stories, they are shot so well

Magic City is one series not mentioned, pretty good

Watched 3 or 4 episodes of Justified S1 and it was pretty awful.

Hmm I thought it was quite good for the first half of season 1 but IMO it went steeply down hill from there and don't think I made it past episode 1 of season 2 which was pretty bad not sure why it gets so highly rated - whatever it is it isn't something that does it for me.

Then again I've not really got what grabs people with Breaking Bad either - really liked the first season but from then on was fairly take it or leave it for me, nothing bad but nothing compelled me to keep watching it either.
