Like a Golf..

Why not try to find something she wants rather than what you think she should buy?

Because she's said she wants a new mini or a BMW, minis don't exist at this sort of price range, and the vast majority of BMW's in this range are going to be sheds, nails or moneypits.

You could always donate your car to her and buy something new for yourself, one of those i10s maybe or a Honda Jazz :p

I picked up this for well, well under your budget. Albeit I brought it back to Ireland and I had to pay more import taxes..

V5 170PS 20V
Sat nav, Cd changer, Climate, Electric Seats yada yada
MK4 1.8T GTi Suspension, 312mm brakes yada yada

Done 8k Miles in 3 months (now 120k miles) it only cost me 30 quid to service and a new tyre.

What is this? What spec/trim? I had absolutely no idea you could get this amount of kit in a leon

I sold my 1.8T for £2k and it was mint (not just good condition, I really mean mint (I have very high standards). Didn't have a stone chip, scratch, scuff anywhere and the interior literally was like new.)

Good condition cars are out there but I think Fox's location is the problem, not the lack of cars.

if it was mint then why did you let it go so cheap?

Thats fine, theres clearly some discussion and guidance needed but the final decision should be up to the person buying the car, rather than buying a car because someone tells you too.

I would help my wife choose a car but I certainly wouldn't say "buy this" with no discussion involved.

Yup - we all know anything coming out of essex is going to be rubbish, you should know that! :p

Anyway, he said he didn't want to go further afield than Exeter - if Essex is closer to Plymouth than Exeter, I've been taking the long way around when I've been there!

Is the E36 a worthy suggestion anyways?

Don't see why not assuming the one you got was a good one. Chap I work with has an E36 323 coupe which has about 170K on the clock and its perfectly acceptable (although the lemon leather interior isn't to everyones tastes!)

However after re-reading the first post, given that a quick deal needs to be done, going sensible with the car choice would be more appropriate.

A friend of mine has an E36 328 Coupe for sale, selling due to upgrading to an E46 M3. It has something like 180K miles on the clock, but had the Alusil replacement at ~70K - It also looks like its had a blow over at some point, the paint is near mint.

Certainly a good, solid car - I think he was after well under £2k for it.

If I could sell the bloody Yaris, I'd buy it myself :(
