List of Programs for which Quad Cores see REAL benifits

I completely agree.

If I was going to spend 50 or so on a CPU, the E2140 or maybe up to an E4300 is fine, but if I was spending more than 150, I would happily drop 500 MHZ for 2 extra cores.

I remember the same arguments back when Athlon 64 single and dual cores were coming out....

Ever heard the expression, "going on like a broken down record player" ?

Well its up to the person buying the CPU, what they want to do with it and how long they want to use it for, also what kind of cooling do they want to use at what noise level.

The forums all over the web are all full of peeps toying between the E6850 and Q6600 and it does not make anyone dumb to buy one over the other, dependant on above, if they ask for advise as they are unsure then thats fine.

i agree entirely, there's good arguments for both processors.

there is no right answer, no matter how strongly certain people want to keep making their opinions known.

sometimes "get a life" really is apt on these forums.

Yes but if you want to keep it for 2 or 3 years then quad the only choice,Ian kept his current system a long time, i don't think he will upgrade again for a long time, so a quad is better for him,if he wanted to play with a 6850 for a few months then fine but if he going to keep it for years then quad is better.

So 2 or 3 years down the road what do you think he be better off with a quad or a c2d,if ian plans to keep it 2 or 3 years there is only 1 choice and to say other wise is out of order as the years go past the other 2 cores will count for a lot.
But getting a 6850 and keeping it for 2 or 3 months isnot the same as getting a quad and keeping it for a few years.
I will get a quad soon and will keep it for 18 months + at least maybe more.

Have a re-read of this thread from post #1

Interesting how it became a E6850 vs Q6600 fight, the O.P never even mentioned a E6850 lol :)

Basically the Quad owners turned up and said anyone who buys a E6850 is dumb. . . provocation eh!

Still not one single benchmark or result showing quad flying?

If you are quoting the purpose of this thread benchmarks were not asked about .... personally I thought we were going to just get a list of software .... where the dual arguement came from I have no idea ... and yes suprisingly quad owners turned up to a thread about quads ...... how odd. ;)

They turned up and said "Don't buy a E6850, buy a Quad for the same price!"

Nobody mentioned a E6850? :D

[edit] when I get a sec I will grab some benches of Quad vs Dual so we can see why everyone is so excited about quad.

Umm why don't people buy a E6750 rather than a E6850 you'd be able to clock it as much as the E6850 goes to surely.
Anyhow i have all my stuff sitting here including my GTX waiting for for a Q6600 GO chip. The only reason im getting a quad rather than a dual is the fact i aint made of money and i would like my sytem to last as long as it can. I also burn loads of dvds and do a lot of rar work too while im playing my games so I would like to see how good the quad will compare to my X2 3800 :|.

Back to the original question

I have found the following seems to work better with a quad. Certainly Task manager shows 50% or greater across all 4 cores when working away.

As you'll see from my list I mainly do photo & video work

Adobe Premier Pro
Adobe Photoshop
Magic Photos to CD&DVD ( top bit of software )
Riverpast Video Converter. Converting 1.5Gb .MKV video 1280X720 to WMV same resolution. No other background stuff going on apart from general Windows stuff. It's having a good go at the 4 cores.

Winrar 3.7
Seti@Home obviously
Generaly system seems more responsive than with the clocked C2D.
