It all kicks off tonight and i'm sure that a city i am proud of will demonstrate all of it's qualities over the course of the year. My hope is that the year will help Liverpool to alleviate many of the stereotypes and to change some of the hearts and minds of those who have a negative opinion of the city and it's people.

Do you think Liverpool will do a good job as the capital of culture? Do you care? Am just interested to know your general thoughts really.

what really is the point of "capital of culture" and how does it manage to generate so much money ?

I had a walk round last Saturday and everywhere you looked something was unfinished, building work EVERYWHERE.

The new arena looks nice, although couldn't get to look inside.

I never really 'got' Liverpool. It's a shoddy looking city, loads of derelict buildings, litter everywhere, a large proportion of the locals wear tracksuits (moreso than anywhere else I have been to) and everyone speaks with the most annoying accent in the world.

How did it manage to get the title of "Capital of Culture" when there are loads of other cities which demonstrate and celebrate their culture in bigger and better ways.

Wow cause you're not stereotyping.

Exactly.Dunno how it beat newcastle gateshead

Sa Béarla le do thoil / In English please. "Wow" causes me not to stereotype? What?

It's a crap city. I have had the misfortune of spending a couple of days in it on a few occasions and the place depressed me. One thing I learned in my time there, don't tell a scouser you don't like Liverpool, they all display a deep rooted insecurity about their city and can't accept criticism.

Im not from there and I don't live there (but I live near there) and I just don't see the same city you do.

A few members from here got together a while ago and not one person disliked it and many opted to return again or would like to return in the future.

Its a far better city to have a good time in than Manchester or London (having lived in both of them) and its also loads friendlier.

I do think this whole 08 business is a load of crap though :)

quite respect how they are proud of where they are from, much in a way like geordies are. bit of money and things start to change, newc/gateshead is a good example of this, starting to really look up these days

Quite shocking really, there's still so much to do in Liverpool in terms of redeveloping e.g. Kensington, Smithdown etc. I don't even think it means that much to me tbh..

The parts that have been done up though are fantastic, they look very nice, and it's odd but I think for its size, Liverpool now kind of has half very rough half very nice, not much inbetween imho

when I went to liverpool to see the chillis in 2002? I thought it was a nice enough city.

But couldn't careless about this and I doubt hardly anyone else does.

I live in Liverpool and looked at the plan of events. They all looked rubbish apart from 'around the city in 80 pints'. Bit of a missed opportunity in my opinion.

Scuzi, when did you visit Liverpool? There are quite a few derelict and depraived areas but that is the same of any city. And as for the annoying accent, brummy is worse by miles!

Last visit was September. I agree about Brummies, I can't stand them either.
