Living in University Halls

I wouldn't worry, haven't you got another two years left after this? Plenty of time left to mess around being an idiot. Besides your still living with me, it's not like it is going to be boring or anything. :p

Are you a first year at Aberystwyth? My mate goes there I think. Or maybe he's at Bangor. Oh well...

Uni is fun :) Am loving it so far, and if only I did more work I'd be even better off :p

Nope half through my second year now mate, Bangor is a lot different to Aberystwyth I would imagine...lol

Yeah Uni is great, doing a lot of work this year, seems to be paying off as well :D

spent most of this year making up for my poor social turnout last year, all good

First year at uni was awesome. I found it pretty crap for the first term and a half, then I met some like-minded people that lived where I did (I lived on the other campus which was miles out of town, and was pretty isolated from normal folk), after that everyday was a blast. Drinking copious amounts of Vodka on the roof of our building during the summer, along with a set of decent speakers and an iPod.

This year hasn't been as good, I'm in the city now, so getting to uni is a pain every morning. My flat is sweet, so much better than the stupid little room I was paying £82p/w for.

Enjoy uni, it's crap afterwards :p

Also loving Uni, its great, really should start doing some work, I'm hoping the course picks up next year, its really slow at the moment.... :p

Its just been non stop nights out the last few weeks, last night was my first night in for a while, spent the whole night playing Supreme Commander on LAN :D
Centurion Challenge the night before that, was successful ;)

Im 16 and Im in my 1st year of 6th form at the moment. Ive just read the first 5 or so pages of tips ect, and its pretty much a life saver :p.

I suppose its kind of given me a kick up the rear to get my work done and do it well so I can get into a good uni and have the time of my life (Im slacking like hell at the moment). Did any of you guys have much of a social life before Uni? Or is that where it mostly begins?

I hated my first year. Don't get me wrong - it had its moments, but I'm enjoying what I'm doing now so much more!

Last year I was bored (wasn't in 1st year accommodation, was living with four 3rd years so they didn't want to do much). The course was very slow and boring (a module on soils?!) and I was very, very poor.

This year I've got a huge circle of friends, a job, different flatmates (get along with better) and a small clique of friends who I do a lot of things with. Combined with the fact that I'm now doing modules I find interesting and the work is actually worth something, I have motivation :)

I'm already dreading having to leave university one day :(

First few hours/days is spent finding the bunch of people you want to hang around with. We spent the first few hours up in the pub in our halls, getting drunk. May as well start early :p

On my arrival day - 16th Sept this is what I plan to do.

1. Offload stuff onto bed
2. Get mum to bleach bathroom a lot
3. I check for spiders and scout for hotties and friends
4. Offer wine, baileys and beer to unsuspecting housemates
5. Say goodbye to dearest mother
6. Socialise, go out, have fun
7. Enrol, freshers week madness and settle in.

Step 7 might take a long time and will probably either be an experience to really forget or remember. lol.

The first month (depending on the course) is really meant for you to learn about everyone else rather than whatever your course is. Treat it as such.

The day you move in knock on doors and tell them who you are - then invite them to the SU. Even if you don't get on with them you might get on with their new mate.

Don't be a tight git - people are making a lot of snap judgements about people in the first couple of weeks just because there are soo many people you're meeting - you don't want to leave them thinking you're the miserly one.

When you go shopping look around as much of town as possible. Scoping out what's good and what's not about where you live is more important than it seems.

Try to get a job behind the bar at the SU. Everyone I know who did get a job behind the bar seems to know - well everybody.

Move step 5 to Step 3, you don't want your mother there, trust me.

do it the mans way!

unload all your crap all over your room, tell your mum to bugger off, get your door wide open and start taking stuff into the kitchen. You'll be walking past everyone's door and there should be other people in the kitchen, easiest way to meet people in your flat!

Soon as I had all my stuff in my room I told my mum and sister where to go, was a good starting conversation as the other flat mates thought I was really mean to my mum !

Was the best time of my life tbh.

I was friends with everyone there and I had the most amazing time, made some really good friends I thought would be for life.

I had some health problems at uni and had to leave and shortly after that my mobile was stolen. All my friends numbers gone and the only number they all had for me went with it. Instantly lost touch with sooo many people who I still miss each time I think about it.

Just wish all this facebook and stuff had been around then!
