Living Room with in-wall 7.1.4 and PJ

looks great Dan , i had a booster but didn't really rate it , i ended up just getting a better HDMI and it was fine

I've got a few plans

the 20 foot long cable is a good HDMI cable and will work 4k over it's length.

Will try a 0.9m HDMI extension cable and remove having need for the HDMI plate and use a brush/fur plate instead
Before that arrives I have a 0.3m HDMI cable that I will try with the plate

If both of these things fail, the pro will bring an active HDMI booster to see if it helps.

Worst case scenario I need to cut into the wall, undo the tape the electrician left the cables taped with to give it a good amount of slack to go direct into AVR

But also have Cat7 in wall so could use that too.

Buying all new HDMI cables, I have an assortment - and some that are supposed to be 4k - only took a 1080p signal from UHD to AVR, tried another cable and it's 4k...

So to avoid issues across the board getting a decent set of HDMI cables

Today a few things did get wired up, but still no mains electricity for the lounge until tomorrow. The outdoor lights got installed, so that’s nice! Also our sideboard arrived, and Louise has been stripping it down so that it can be stained and varnished in a darker colour.

The sideboard will go behind the sofa, not block the centre speaker!

I do need some storage for my blu rays, they aren't going to fit nicely in this sideboard :( so I need something of my own - and they cannot be on display!

so will the professional calibration give you some additional feedback on echos/reverberation (maybe not the right technical term) inside the room
for future optimisation of acoustic surfaces ? ( I had a look at your ARC calibration and did not seem to mention these artefacts. )

I know he has a well trained ear and as a friend he will tell me anything I need to know to get the most out of it (obviously I'm not about to lay down carpet), but reasonable things. I don't know how he does his job though, personally I just run ARC, but I'm sure it will be more involved and interesting! There will also be the projector calibration too, picture colour/settings and making sure I get the right picture sizes across formats and equipment.

Currently I'm not sure myself how to set it up on a 2.35:1 screen!

Dan , i have a JVC X500 and considered getting it professionally calibrated , but because of the nature of bulbs i decided against it , so i just bought a light meter .

what do you mean unsure how to set up a 2.35.1 screen mate ?

Well when you turn the projector on with no source, the aspect ratio is on 'auto' and the blue screen is probably 16:9

When I play a 2.35:1 movie it puts it across the middle.

I'm wondering if I'm suppose to resize the JVC output to 2.35:1 at my max size.. but I can't see a way to do this.

I have a video processor as well, but was going to leave that to the professional to configure.

Just I'd like to set it up a little before he gets here :)

from memory you go into settings , screen size , a green grid will appear you then use lens shift to make the grid fit the size you want 16.9/2.35.1 and save each input

I have the zoom, shift and focus options I use often - won't allow aspect ratio change, but will look for this other option.

Fuse board is about to be changed and will lose power for 3 hours or so, might get internet on my laptop - but no projector playing yet.... but screen should be working after!

its been a couple of years since i did mine and i'm at work now , but i can take a look tonight when i get home .

your screen is 16.9 i'm guessing ? get the grid up , pan out till you hit the edge of the screen (left and right) then that is your 2.35.1, save input

The screen is 120inch wide 2.35:1 though now I've projected on the wall bigger than it is, I feel saddened that it might feel small!

Screen is working now :) and I figured out what to do about screen sizing -

load up a 2.35:1 film - then position it so that the picture covers the screen and save that.

and I already did the PS4, load it up get it inside the screen area and save it as presumably 16:9

personally unless you know how to calibrate it i wouldn't bother , just get a light meter and check every now and then , your model will have the auto bulb thing also ?

I have a video processor unit to be calibrated with the projector, the professional will be doing that.
