Liz Truss' huge net worth as she's entitled to £115k per year for the rest of her life

Politicians should be limited to a very nice but not ridiculous total income for the rest of their lives, sort of UC on steroids. We'd soon see who was in it for the right reasons.

Yeah the world needs more good meaning but incompetent people in power

yea only expenses lol can't take that away from an MP they use to it for their whole life.... never paying for anything.

One place we should cut down on MP benefits and wages....

Purpose

The PDCA was introduced to assist former Prime Ministers still active in public life. Payments are made only to meet the actual cost of continuing to fulfil public duties.

The costs are a reimbursement of incurred expenses for necessary office costs and secretarial costs arising from their special position in public life. The allowance is not paid to support private or parliamentary duties. The PDCA is in addition to any constituency office which they may maintain as a Member of Parliament. The PDCA allowance is paid from the Cabinet Office vote and administered by the Cabinet Office Finance Team.

Reimbursement of costs and pension allowance

Former Prime Ministers or their staff may only be reimbursed for legitimate salary or office expenses incurred in meeting the demands of the former Prime Minister’s public life up to the annual limit.

If this was UC and I quit my job I'd be sanctioned and have my money cut off, not for PM's or politicians it seems, ****** me off.

They should surrender all assets and investments. Then they get paid a very healthy amount based on gdp of the country (or other telling country performance metric) this way they don’t get their greasy corruptible fingers in the big oil pies. Of course - if gdp declines - their amount reduces - this way they plan for the future.

Why? Every time I've left a job they haven't kept paying me.

Because if you're going to limit them for the rest of their lives then it seems fair to ensure they're looked after. I'm not talking millions, just enough that its attractive to people who are competent but altruistic to some degree to serve the country.

There should be a minimum length of service - being PM to get this money.

In a similar fashion to CEOs - making hundreds redundant, worst year since the company started etc - then give themselves a mid 6 figure or low 7 figure sum as bonus.

Bonuses should be earned, not given out like sweets.

Public humiliation for years to come and to be possibly remembered as one of the worst in history all for some money :D

Whilst unnecessary wastes of money are being mooted, how come a new leadership ballot and result can actually be processed in a week, whereas previously it took far far longer? The country was left rudderless for an extended period and seemingly it could have been sorted within seven days.

How many other seemingly protracted governmental procedures could actually be condensed into far shorter timescales with resulting increases in efficiency and decreases in expenditure and uncertainty?

Yes, Tony Blair did kill all those people…

A brief google says that we (the UK) lost 179 servicemen / servicewomen during the Iraq war.

I'm pretty sure the thousands of people who died due to the utterly inept handling of Covid bares a lot more weight, if we're talking about lives lost due to a PM's actions (or inaction)

To be fair the real people who make that decision had their laugh getting truss in so now they've had all that time plus this extra week to get the person in they really wanted :p
