They have broken the contract, they can now cancel with out any penalty. They have taken away a service which was provided. I have done this before.Totally down to their contract if it's legal.
You might have grounds to cancel without any penalties, although that might only be for service providers like Sky/Virgin etc..
Otherwise it's just market forces that tend to dictate if charging more for less is viable.
You don't know what's in the contract to say if they've broken it or if its terms are unfair. They have broken the contract, they can now cancel with out any penalty. They have taken away a service which was provided. I have done this before.
Cancelling a gym membership
When you can cancel your gym membership without paying, what to say to the gym when asking to cancel, where to get more help if the gym's not responding.www.citizensadvice.org.uk

Pretty much this - try and cut the bills for the highest cost vs benefit items.
My oldest tells me the gossip is that her school's heating bill has gone from £60K to £190K. I imagine the typical gym / health club would be in a similar position.
It's likely most sub indexation isn't commercialy adequate if there are unprecedented increases in costs which aren't adequately reflected in RPI etc.Do these places not increase their fees by RPI etc. every year? If they did this properly they should be able to cover most of the energy price rises with higher subs fees, either that or their sub indexation is not commercially adequate.

They are taking away a service he was using, they no longer provide it. I had the same thing a few years ago and left virgin active. You don't know what's in the contract to say if they've broken it or if its terms are unfair.
Maybe the contract allows them to take away a service. As I said, you need to know what's in the contract before you can say they've broken it.They are taking away a service he was using, they no longer provide it. I had the same thing a few years ago and left virgin active.

Yes they did. Fees went up after Covid.Do these places not increase their fees by RPI etc. every year? If they did this properly they should be able to cover most of the energy price rises with higher subs fees, either that or their sub indexation is not commercially adequate.
