Local Gym - closing Spa pools to save money?!

Totally down to their contract if it's legal.

You might have grounds to cancel without any penalties, although that might only be for service providers like Sky/Virgin etc..

Otherwise it's just market forces that tend to dictate if charging more for less is viable.
They have broken the contract, they can now cancel with out any penalty. They have taken away a service which was provided. I have done this before.

You don't know what's in the contract to say if they've broken it or if its terms are unfair.

You probably have 2 options. Pay more or get less. Thats quite literally how everything is going to be for a while. I'm not sure why people think that a highly energy intensive business would be exempt from obscenely high energy costs.

This is why chocolate bars get smaller before they get more expensive usually. You shrink the product or you increase the price. Sometimes both.

Do these places not increase their fees by RPI etc. every year? If they did this properly they should be able to cover most of the energy price rises with higher subs fees, either that or their sub indexation is not commercially adequate.

When your costs are going through the roof I guess they have to try it....

Pretty much this - try and cut the bills for the highest cost vs benefit items.

My oldest tells me the gossip is that her school's heating bill has gone from £60K to £190K. I imagine the typical gym / health club would be in a similar position.

Yeah we had our town hall meeting at work and CEO said elec costs are looking to be up 350% for next year. Will be similar for lots of business.

It's likely most sub indexation isn't commercialy adequate if there are unprecedented increases in costs which aren't adequately reflected in RPI etc.

They are taking away a service he was using, they no longer provide it. I had the same thing a few years ago and left virgin active.
Maybe the contract allows them to take away a service. As I said, you need to know what's in the contract before you can say they've broken it.

Yes they did. Fees went up after Covid.

As I wrote a few pages back though...

Nuffield is managed terribly. They hand out offers on membership discount (£50 > £25 and less) then have to close services due to lack of money.

I got that email through the other day, and I'm annoyed by it, I like to use the spa pool after a workout as it tends to help if I've strained anything and it's just a nice thing to do. Seems a bit stingy from Nuffield. What annoyed me is how they did it, for a while at my Nuffield they where just saying it's broken . . .

Happy to report so far David Lloyd gym near me is still roasting hot Spa, sauna, steam room, both indoor and outdoor pool and the showers are still boiling.

Only 30 more days of this luxurious life and I'll be back to running the streets in the wind and rain. £200 a month richer though.

havent been to a gym with a spa ever haha, much prefer the old school gym feel. saying that though most of these gyms like david lloyds charge an absolute bomb
