Logitech Z-5500 Question

someone said analog is 0 and 1s and digital is waves
No, no, no. Analogue is like a sine wave (remeber from maths?). Like a wavey line. Digital is 1's and 0's and there is only either on,1, or off, 0. This is why when you have bad digital TV reception, you either get a crystal picture or nothing at all. Analogue works all over the place because it has a full range from one peak of the wave to the other. It is also the reason you can get ghosting on TV as waves reach the aerial at slightly different times, causing them to go out of phase - anyway, I think that is probably enough of an explanation.

Blue Peter style :D

I have an Audigy 2 and just bought the Z-5500s

I have currently connected it together with the supplied cables... but I want to connect it via a digital connection too, using the digital out on my sound card... what cables do I need etc?

Get a Coaxial cable (male both ends - audio cable) and then you need a coax (aka phono - female) to 3.5mm MONO male jack (look for one single black band on the 3.5mm jack end). Then plug it into the digital out and the coax onto the back of the control pod - exactly what I did :).

Any pros and cons for using digital over analog?

I could have both... but which is better for the following uses:

MP3s
DVDs
Games

I have optical cable (digital) hooked up aswell as analogue.

I prefer analogue, as my dinovo doesn't like volume controls with digital.

Sounds fantastic too!

I rarely watch DVD films anyway, and the Audigy has a good decoder anyway, so not really much point in investing more money for a digital connection, is there?
Thing is, for music and DVD's I use digital and for games analogue (e.g. EAX which requires analogue). It doesn't cost much to use digital anyway (cost me about £5 for both cable and converter) so I thought I might as well use digital and use the decoder on the sub to receive digital surround for films.

I think I've decided on a set of these speakers.

So I can use the analogue 3-jack connectors for my PC and the optical connection for an Xbox 360?
Yes.... Similar to mine except I only have a PS2 :( - but I'm waiting for the PS3 :D.
