London Bridge Incident

Better they exploded outside on the street than if they'd made it into the bar with less between them and people to absorb any shrapnel, etc.

Oh yea, it wasn't a criticism of the polices actions, I was just wondering why the terrorists were wearing fake vests and if it was to put the police off from shooting them , and if so how possible is detonation if its a real vest.....what a position those ARO guys were in :-/

When the media say that 48 people are injured am I right to think that those 48 either sustained a stab wound or were hit by the vehicle? Its astonishing to think that up 48 individuals sustained a stab wound in all of this.

I think I saw somewhere only 20 hurt from the crash so the other 28 must be from stabbing :(

Yeah nasty situation - definitely designed to make people wary of tackling them IMO. So many variables as to the possibility of detonation - some explosives are more stable or detonated by different things than others same with triggering mechanisms - a bullet through a wire might disable the bomb or might short the triggering connections or a bomb might be rigged with a "deadman" trigger where the loss of connectivity on that wire detonated it and so on (though usually that is a mechanical implementation as its simpler).

There have been armed police around train stations in London for the past few days including London Bridge station which is a few hundred metres from where the incident took place so that might well have helped with speed of response.

Read about the SAS Blue Thunder squad stationed in London. Helicoptered onto London Bridge last night. Apparently have an Apache Gunship available for surveillance - that's pretty hardcore.

Sounds like the first person on the scene was a transport copper who had a crack at the chaps with his baton. Good lad!

8 mins from the 999 call to dead bad guys is incredible.

50 rounds fired into 3 terrorists. Nothing like making sure is there lol!

Thing is as well will be the overlap - there will likely be more than one officer shooting at the same time even if they are individually shooting in a controlled and proportionate manner.

Probably a once in a career event to get to plug a terrorist with lead. Can't blame them for being enthusiastic.

I remember seeing an American real life A&E show and this guy came in after being shot with an uzi. He was still complaining while being wheeled in :p

It was amazing, he had little bullet holes down one arm, across his abdomen and across the other arm! In the OR they opened him up, pulling out his intestines to check for holes etc, patched him up and he was fine. I can't remember how many times he was shot, but it was a lot

The moral of this anecdote is you can't be too sure! :p

Always good when your colleague fires at the same time as you!

The fact that they had fake vests possibly suggests they were unsuccessful in creating real ones, which would at least be a positive we could all take away.

I'd speculate that having fake ones was mainly to stop people trying to disarm and stop them. A group might be able to take down somebody with a knife, but if they look like a suicide bomber, you would probably want to stay away.

Ultimately the fact that they were wearing them is likely the reason why so many rounds were discharged by the police, infact they may have not shot them at all had they not looked like they were suicide bombers.

These guys would have been running around, civilians everywhere, absolute chaos. Its amazing that only one civilian sustained friendly fire.

Potential suicide bombers walks towards you and your armed colleagues after killing and injuring 50+ people. 8 officers with approximately 2 burst fires each sounds fine to me.

On another note, it's scary how easy it is to do something like this. I was out in Oxford the other night and we were saying how easy someone with an ideological motive could cause carnage in a high street/public place.

Not going to lie, i am worried about going to work tomorrow.
I will be traveling through London Bridge tomorrow on the tube. I will be vigilant but refuse to let it stop me. If carrying on my normal day is one way to fight this war then I will do that even if there is a risk.

Of these 50 shots, did all hit, or was some of it suppression fire to keep them moving in a direction, away from another direction?
Or do the police here tend not to use such fire, only shooting when a hit it most likely?
