London F1 Race - Maybe

I think its more to do with the lack of under pitch heating or something far more complex than just the grass. I should have said 'pitch' not turf.

It is something that always seems to be touted when the British Grand Prix comes around, but its never likely to happen. That said, the plan of doing it on the Olympic site is about as feasible as a Grand Prix in London is ever going to be. It would also depend on the infrastructure as to whether it would be a one off, or whether it could be a street circuit based on the proposed property and such that is being built in future. Ultimately somebody would have to pay for it though.

Croft mentioned in the Sky Practise coverage yesterday something about an F1 demonstration under the lights in London. He said details would be available on Sky some stage later.

Anyone know what is supposed to be happening?
My assumption would be that they are most likely going to be doing something that ties in with the Olympics... so I would guess maybe cars around the Olympic park area... especially given the talk of possibly staging a race there.

Using my very rough Google Maps comparison, I reckon you could just about fit the Monaco pit lane inside the Olympic stadium.

The other thing that most tracks have issues with are the noise restrictions. Does anyone live at near thre Olympic park. Iirc they moved everyone out of the park itself so new residents could be warned of the event before they buy the homes!

Why do people continue to do business with Bernie? Anyone with any sense know 20 races is about the limit and yet there appears to be about 5 new races that want to be added to the calandar. Uhm, yer sure ok, I'll eat my hat if they all get added.

All you end up with are half finished tracks and more money in Bernie's pocket, and somehow he seems to get away with it time and time again.

I would welcome 40 F1 races where each one alternates with another, leaving 20 a year.

I think they should up their gamesmanship tbh. Footballers football more or less every week (sometimes more). Nascars nascar everyweek (often participating in the lower leagues as well) and it's not because the travel is less, they often have to go from one corner of the US to half way across the US in one week. If F1 wants to be a global event (rather than the euro event it is now) it needs to pull its socks out and spend more than one weekend in an area. Bernie has seen the money in asia hence the increased number of races there, he should also know that if americans actually got into f1 they would easily be a huge money making machine. Plenty go to see indy car so it's not like they're all ovalheads.

I think the hundreds of people at F1 teams bases would have something to say about having MORE races.

It isn't just about the racing. There is a HUGE logistic nightmare behind it all.

Getting ~15 players and assorted staff to a stadium is easy. Getting two cars, tens of staff, replacement parts etc around the world every week isn't easy.

It isn't cheap either.

Alternating deals have saved a few tracks from dropping off the calendar over the years, I think it would be good to get a few more on that setup.

It could replace Valencia as the European GP.

ahead of a promotional event by sponsor Santander on Thursday evening to unveil its idea for a track around the city

Looks like we should have more details later today...

Edit: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Jenson-Button-revealed.html?ito=feeds-newsxml - Nowhere near the Olympic site then...

Rumours are Bernie is supporting a race in London as an idea to drum up interest, with plans for an actual track not being in the centre like the video suggests. Could work...

Layout looks rubbish. And theres no way that a) they would be able to close the centre of London for 3 days, and b) they would be allowed to build a pitlane on the Mall.

The more I read about this the more I think its a PR stunt to drum up interest in a London GP that would ultimately be on a track built elsewhere in the city.

Oh yeah, and this is sorta in the way too....
