London violence reaching epidemic proportions

Currently in Berlin and it's absolutely amazing. Only been two days but so far I've not found any reason for us not to move here, and many reasons to do it. I'm already looking at rent and jobs

I lived down the road from Berlin. and a lot of people there seemed to have a love / hate relationship with Berlin and I can understand why. For me I wasn't a fan. Yes it's quite international and loads of people speak English (compared to the rest of Eastern Germany), but I found it a very strange mix. Not much in the way of an old town (compared to many other German cities for obvious reasons) but huge areas of 1980's builds, some very strange people and just underwhelmed. The museum island and Unter den Linden are nice. Potsdam is nice. Hamburg is miles better than Berlin though IMO and you've got the whole Northern part to Denmark which is great right on your doorstep.

Got family moving to berlin tho, so it'd tie in nicely. As for the love/hate thing, I've lived in Joburg, Amsterdam and London and the same applies to all of them. None as vocal as the anti-London brigade though, if they managed to convert their whinging in to energy we'd solve the planet's energy crisis overnight :p

I dont like London... i dont especially like any cities but would take manchester and liverpool and newcastle before london...... That said i would not say i am anti london, it just isnt for me.

i choose not to visit (often) but no problems with folk who like the life there........ BUT it does grind my gears how much money london (and the south in general ) gets compared to the north of England.... but i would not say that is me being anti london.... its an objective truth that London gets more of the pie imo.

There is a reason for that!

Without truly radical changes the more genteel folk of England, living in more rural areas, probably have 15 to 20 years tops to enjoy a somewhat pleasant and undisturbed life. City dwellers much less time, so make the most of it.

As the third world empties into Europe with its more liberal citizens hailing the never ending exodus as wonderfully enriching time is of the essence before the country becomes as lawless as South Africa and other areas where necessary control has been given away.
There are too many people, period. And we've spent too long turning a blind eye to very real problems, burying our heads in the sand, and not trying to fix anything.

An overload is.. inevitable at this point.

And then a meltdown. In other words, things are probably inevitably going to get a lot, lot worse, and we're probably beyond the point at which we can course correct. Society is well along the path to self-destruction (even without external factors whooping our sorry asses). Russia and/or China might speed things along a bit, tho. Or we might simply wipe out one too many critical ecosystems.

I'd be massively surprised we manage another fifty years without a major collapse/correction. Not that I'll live to see the answer. Or it might happen sooner.

This is the way for most (not all) countries where the capital is where the money is. The pie is the money from the private sector so it’s not being taken away from the north. Actually if it’s taken away from London it would be because the businesses and people have moved abroad and then the pie gets smaller for everyone.

I do enjoy this thread being next to the "This is why people are losing respect for the police..." thread

Whilst I generally agree, this country desperately needs to stop being so London centric. The gap between our capital and other major cities is higher than most developed nations similar to ours. Can’t even build a high speed line between our major cities.

We are particularly good at sabotaging ourselves and the high speed line is exactly that. We can build one from London into Europe (and Kent) but try to go anywhere else and it’s just a minefield of problems.

I get private business goes where ever they want and if they see more money setting up in the south they will.... however IF the government had even an ounce of integrity about their pledges to level up the north they would give sweeteners to private enterprise to set up in some of the less affluent but potentially decent places in the UK.

rather than paying off their mates huge sums for dodgy contracts if they actually worked properly I am sure they could get more lucrative startups setting up all over the place

Sweeteners rarely work. The business nearly always fails. This is what happened when LG tried to set up a big base in Wales due to a big sweetener. I hope some of the other ones work better like the big battery plant but I bet the space industry over in Cornwall fails spectacularly.

50 stitches

At least they got a reasonable sentence

It does just blow my mind too.

Ok stealing phones.... Yeah petty scumbags but not life altering crimes...

But their reaction absolutely ****ing insanity x 1000.

that should be life for real life...locked out of society for ever. This is just keeping them off the streets for 10 years, when they are out they wont be any different. I dont think you can rehabilitate a guy in his mid 20s. A kid sure... Possible, but these 2. Seriously just double tap into a mass grave, after letting their victims stab/carve them a couple of times if they want some revenge.

50 stitches to your face... thats the rest of your life ruined. You are never going to be over that mentally and you'll be the freaky looking one that kids point at in the supermarket...
