Look what I just bought (pics)!!

Doesnt run hot at all, I've taken the side off whilst its been running, and its very cool in there... Apple designed it so it was cool, and it realyl is.

You cant hear the fans at all either, and it runs Windows in Boot Camp just like any PC!

You'd prob be waiting a year if you are waiting for the next upgrade, took them over a year to upgrade to this one, so don't bother waiting for an upgrade!

Cheers for that. :)

I have to say I am tempted. Sorely tempted.

I'd never use the 8 cores but it would be a long term purchase. I just feel if I got the 4 cores, in a year or so I would be wanting a bit more from the machine.

Considering that and the 8800GTS.

Think I'll wait a bit and get the funds for one of these and a 3008wfp. Then I'll realize what I have done (or how much I've spent, rather) and possibly kill myself.

I'd personally get a Apple Cinema Display instead of a Dell, I got the 3007 mainly for my PC, but if I knew I was buying a Mac Pro at the time I would have got for the Cinema Display cos it would look soooo much better with the Mac.

But I wouldnt get a Cinema Display now though, cos I think they are updating these soon and putting iSights in there... Don't quote me on that though.

You won't regret getting a Mac Pro!!

Don't get me wrong, I would love a ACD to go along with the Pro. However, with distributors of Dell's monitors there'll be something of a £250-£300 difference.

Although the Mac Pro itself isn't pocket change, I think I would have a hard time shelling out £250-300 on a pretty outer casing. Although some may argue that might be already what I am doing. ;)

I spec'd up a similar spec Dell to a Mac pro the other day and I was shocked. :)

Sure, you get a 'free' monitor with the Dell, but you could buy a bigger one for the price gap.

And you get OS X with a Mac Pro... and you can still run WIndows on it if you want. Yeah you can run OS X on a pc, but illegally!

Bootcamp, that way --->

I'm gonna chuck my 8800GTX in my mac pro soon, but I need the PCI-E power cable, and they are like gold dust to get in the UK. I think ive found a place though, the guy is gonna order some in, just waiting on his reply, then my 8800GTX will go into my Mac pro and ill have:

8 Core Penryn
6GB 800MHz Ram
8800GTX

Crysis here I come!!!

What's a PCI-E Power cable? Molex to PCI-E or something a bit more obscure?

I might just keep my GTX and stick it in the Mac Pro. I hate how tempting it has become only 14 days after building a new rig. I just enjoy using OS X too much.

Support for the GTX in OS X would be even nicer, mind.

Its one of those... prob not allowed to post that link, but its a yankie site so it shouldnt matter!

Its the generic graphics card power lead (you will have two in your GTX) but the other end is a Apple design, and it plugs into the Mac Pro motherboard. You could use your PC PSU and sit that next to ya mac pro and power it that way if you want, but thats a little untidy for my liking :) So Im gonna get me two of those!

Ah right I see. Hopefully you don't have too much hassle getting those.

Whats the power rating of the Mac Pro PSU? I've seen the line voltage and 'up to 300w for four graphics cards' but I'm too used to just seeing 600w, 750w. etc to comprehend what it is.

Is that a like for like spec? I thought macs were meant to be expensive ?!

Yup. Apart from the 'free' monitor, anyway. :)

The Dell is shown there with no VAT too. ;)

I was looking at the Dell brochures today for their 13" ones and for the price, though slightly cheaper than the MacBook, it's not by *that* much when you're considering addition of OS X & iLife... but that spec between Dell and the MacPro is quite literally double!

I am !

Cheers matey. No idea who sorted it out in the end, just emailed everyone till they got sick of me :D

What happened? I always miss things. :o

The Dells have also been known to give a very nasty shock to the user.
