Looking for a first car, interested in a Toyota Yaris 1.5 T-Sport, problem is insurance is £5k :eek:. It's only a £150 off for the 1.3. I've been past 7 months with 0 NCB.

Is there a cheaper alternative?
 
Well with Dad having passed away, and mum not having a licence, I don't think I have any other choice. Unless I put my mum as the registered keeper?

Really gutted it's that high. Guess with all the people putting claims in, no wonder it's that high.

Are you actually going to do more than 6k a year?

That aside the only other thing is to try a few different cars.
 
civics are always expensive... i did find the VW Lupo's / Seat Arosa's cheap.. the 1.0 one's tho.. honestly.. its a first car so i guess you can't complain as long as its the cheapest to insure?
 
Ring around in person, that's all I can really advise.

Living in crap postcodes really does suck though. My insurance would be just over HALF if I lived somewhere that wasn't a dump. Hell, the difference between keeping my car at home and at my lock up a whole half a mile away is £600 :confused:.
 
try a rover, their rep for being old persons cars sometimes helps. the 25 isnt a chronically awful car for the money they cost either.
 
If you can maintain a classic cheaply the insurance saving you'll make is phenominal. Paid £600 in my own name first year. £650 fully comp with an accident 2nd year, looking at £550 next year.
 
Try insuring a car with a reasonable group insurance using the old 20 scheme get something that is 1-3. It sucks for the first year or 2 having a crap car, but unless you want to pay out of the arse for insurance, it's necessary.
 
Always wondered - could you (theoretically) insure it at another address of a relative etc... and just accept the risk that if it's stolen you probably won't be covered for theft? - especially if the car is worth very little.

I feel for you op - £5k is loads just make sure you ring round loads and keep trying (sure you have been anyway).

No because you might find yourself in hot water if you have a crash and they find out. Remember it isnt just the theft risk that accounts for the cost of insurance at a particular address (otherwise TPO would be the same regardless of address) but also what the profiling says about the people who live in that area and the chances of them making a claim..
