looking to update my gpu but torn on which way to go (cheers for any help)

What sort of performance increase would I be looking at if I went with the 56 from the 970?

For games anywhere from 40%-100% better, this is before you undervolt and overclock to get another 15% on top of that. Benches it will destroy the 970 although these are artificial scores. I would get the 56 over the the 64, but if you were spending another ton I couldnt rule out what nvidia cards in that price to consider. For £250 its the best card for its price.

Thanks for the insight mate. I’ve dabbled in overclocking etc but how / what exactly is undervolting when it comes to graphic cards.
I just get confused how you can give it less power and then it gives you more performance ?

Imagine it like this

A man running 100 meters, he is given 3 burgers to fuel him for the speed he will run.
He actually only needs 2 burgers to fuel him, they gave him 3 to make sure he had enough.
With 1 burger less in his belly he is slightly lighter and can run that little bit faster.

56 always has been a great chip, just lots cant see past the green team.

Kinda nailed the basic concept of it though, I could have included that the space the 3rd burger leaves can then be filled with a red bull and results in him running faster. but i kept it simple and i think... perfect as an analogy XD

Its bull though isnt it.. I have a few profiles for gaming and a couple for mining. To put it in perspective when it is mining flat out at good performance its only consuming 125w because its undervolted going for power efficiency settings. Similar when gaming as well as the 'Chill' setting you can toggle to reduce power consumption during your titles.

People who are spouting heat issues on the vegas have never owned them or do not know how to configure them correctly.

I won’t lie. I was guilty of being “green team” when I was shopping around and went with the 970 but from what I’ve read amd have come on leaps and bounds and I’d rather give my money to the better party on the day. How hot does a 56 run on avg if you happen to know?

No, when the 56 was £400+ this was the case, I do not think you will find anyone that would recommend an nvidia card anymore for sub £300.

As above, the 56 is the best deal and has been for quite a while ( apart from the mining boom ).

I held the number 1 3dmark score on firestrike ultra for a vega 64, I fiddled with vegas so much for many months (i owned 4 of them, 1st one died... my fault) even had them in crossfire on a 750w power supply, beating 2080ti scores left and right
I could beat a 1080 using under 200w, but yeah, something wrong in the internet mind that we sadly cannot fix

So users say which is why I got one as I plan to game on this display sometime soon. It was just a no brainer for me as its a great gaming card but I also mine when not using the machine which I have done for some years now. I also own a 1060 6Gb so its not like I just buy team red, its just the best card for the money until you can afford a 2080 territory.

It will, but to be honest, depends on the game, and the graphics settings, are we talking 60fps? then almost definately, 144hz monitor at 1440p, no unless you drop settings, but even a 2080ti can struggle on some games doing that

Vega 56 pulse 249.99 with division 2 gold edition and world war z , an unbelievable awesome bargain, i wish I needed a new card because i would be all over that

Hang on - this card was released this year in January right? Vega was August '17 so hardly fair to compare on that alone.

Whilst its a nice card.. its not worth £300. nvidia need to start scaling down the prices to be realistic with their ranges.

I have a 1080ti now, but i am thinking of ditching it for V7 as i want freesync back, thinking of swapping my tv and want adaptive sync and of course... Nvidia doesnt want to play with that does it...
I have a blown v56 i was doing some hefty modding too and broke it, but the nice red V7s look sweet..
